THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
Im anxiously awaiting the arrival of my first bow. With a whole lot of debate, settled on the mission craze. I'm petite and have no idea what my draw length/weight is going to be as I haven't even held a bow since hunter's safety 4 years ago. What im wondering, is what types of sights,rests....... work well with this particular bow as well as for newbs. also, ive heard a lot of debate on using rear sights. some people hate them (esp peeps) should i start with/without one and avoid a peep if i do? I hear a lot of good things about truglo sights. Any insight as to what model would be great for starting out?

Take it to a pro shop.
They'll take care of your draw length and cut your arrows to size.
Whisker Biscuit is a good choice for an arrow rest when it comes to a newb..(lol).

As stated above, your best bet is going to be a reputable archery shop. They will have all kinds of sights you can see and try- pretty much any sight will work on your bow, so it's a matter of preference, number color and size of pins, weight, adjustment method, etc.

Rear peep is not critical as there are some sights designed to work without a peep, but will help you be more accurate much like the rear sight on a rifle. The shop will set it up for you, and you can try it before they finalize it so you'll see how it will work.

Arrows is another area you want them to set you up with, as they will set up and tune the whole system to work together for you. Arrow length, weight, spine, fletching, and point weight all factor into the tuning equation. You should be able to set your sight pin(s) as part of the process and be sure it's all working well, as well as get some shooting tips.

Congrats, and welcome!

Here's a link to the bow you purchased:

http://missionarchery.com/product/craze/

You never mentioned if you purchased the bow through a local shop or via mail order. Either way, you'll need to enlist the help of a local shop to set it up for you correctly. Your draw length will more than likely be set correctly if you use the following formula: wingspan divided by 2.5. Your wingspan is fingertip-to-fingertip measurement of outstretched arms. As for draw weight, start with whatever weight you can comfortably draw while seated in a chair with your feet off the floor. If you have to point the bow to the sky to draw, the poundage is too high. You should be able to draw the bow in a level position. I highly recommend using a peep sight, especially for a beginning archer. Some peeps use a piece of rubber tubing attached to the bow to align them, but I prefer the ones that do not (Meta, etc.)

Congratulations on your purchase, and welcome to the world of archery.

Although it's already been explained, here's a helpful diagram for draw length:

There's also some great tips in here if you haven't seen it:
New to archery?

Always great to have another shooter! Welcome to the club and hope to see you around.

Good deal!

I don't know what the weather is like where you are, but it's in the teens here with a small amount of snow on the ground, so I'm not even thinking about archery at the moment.

Old thread, but as far as measuring wingspan, do it standing up against a wall. Stand near a corner, extend your finger tip to the corner and then measure on the wall where the other fingertip lands. Hold your arms out straight, but relaxed, without stretching.

Because if you use the tape measure on your body, the tape will curve around you and will read longer than you really are.

Then you can divide by 2.5 like said, or even better, subtract 15 inches from your wingspan and then divide by 2.

For example 65 inch wingspan - 15 inches = 50 inches. 50 inches / 2 = 25 inch draw length. Whereas the the divide by 2.5 method will say you have a 26 inch draw length. When in doubt, go with the shorter draw length. You only lose or gain 10 fps of arrow speed per inch of draw. Better to have a slightly slower arrow that you can hit the bullseye consistently with than a slightly faster arrow that you struggle with because your draw length is a touch too long.
