Congratulations.
I thought about buying a new bow next month, but since my current one is only four years old, I'll probably wait until next year. ![]() |

Funny that you said "insane", as the BowTech "Insane" is the one I was considering buying when it is released next month (depending on the specs, of course). When I said "next year", I meant 2013. I'm saving up to pay cash for a truck this spring, and would hate to dip into that to buy a bow, especially when the bow I have right now is a deer-slaying machine.

Santa knows what you want. I am going to send you pictures from the archery trade show (ATA) when it is announced in January and I'll even try it out for you. |

Congrats to you both- I just got the LOR Extended Blue Ray Trilogy for Xmas, so the Legolas comment is appreciated.
Despite the desire to shoot tight groups, eventually you have to weigh the cost of the broken arrows... as it is, I still hit one or two a week. Luckily with the end of season deals, I picked up some spares so I'm good to go for a while. For the leather quiver, I use a cheap $9.99 quiver from Dicks that hooks on to you pants and makes access to arrows even easier than Legolas' antiquated design. |

I've had the extended version DVD trilogy for years now, and try to watch them all at least once a year. I bet Blue Ray is even more awesome. I also try to read the 1100-page book every now and then. |

How many pins do most folks use. I currently have three, set at 20, 30 and 40 yards. I tried stepping out to 50 yards and estimating the hold with decent results, but it seems like a few more pins might be a good idea.
Any helpful thoughts are appreciated |

Back when I used multiple pins, I had them for 20, 30, and 40 yards. That seems to be the average number of pins that most shooters have. If you need pins beyond those yardages, then by all means add them.
I have an adjustable single-pin sight, and have marks for 20-50 yards. I'd never taken a first shot at a deer beyond 30 yards, but have the longer ranges sighted in just in case a deer needs a second, longer shot to finish the job. |

Thanks, I have no intention of taking a shot beyond 30 yards, but practicing at the longer distances has been a boost to my confidence in both me and the bows ability |

My better half has shot with me 3 times so far- 1 she hit and broke my target stand (PVC), the second she stuck the arrow into the house, and the third she went through the shed (which I turned into a target house) and into the siding again. At least I didn't have to look for the arrows...
ETA: Here's the bag target layout before I added more "safe" backstop around the target itself. I used to pull it out to shoot, but these days I just open the doors and shoot it where it sits. This way I never have to worry about rain, snow or putting anything away; shut the doors and I'm done. ![]() |

I was at an archery range run by the Ohio DNR.
Behind the 20 yard targets is about 30 yards of flat land, followed by a berm that rises eight feet (maybe), and another 20 yards of flat land, all of which is covered in grass tussocks about 6 to 8 inches deep, and behind that is a wooded hill. The arrows that I did find in the grass, only about 6 inches of shaft and the fletching were visible. |

It used to be that the metal detector would come out to find those buried in the grass, but that gets harder with the carbon arrows. I've been working on a setup that involves stall mats (1" thick 4'x6'? rubber mats designed for the floors of horse stalls) for my friends that try to hit the broadside of my house. Available at Tractor Supply for $30-$40, hopefully they can't miss 2 of those side by side. |

Nice! Congrats on your new bow!
I was holding one of those bows yesterday, it felt nice and light. Nice looking bow also. |
