While wearing a heavy glove, heat kydex strip, wrap around zoom ring, squeeze with gloved hand making sure to get into the grooves, and then fasten.

I like the idea that if it gets banged on a barrel, or snags on something, the plastic is more likely to flex than to take the bell housing off with it. It didn't hurt that they are dirt cheap.
