I'm in the process of redoing my 3-gun belt and switching over to the Safariland ELS setup.

Also going to pick up a holster for a new Glock 34 and wasn't sure which to go with: the 6378 or 5198.

I've been using the 5188 for my other pistols, but like to have a bit of retention for 3-gun. Is the 5198 (w/ detent) enough, or better to go with the 6378 (ALS)? Not had a chance to try either of those two specifically, so thought I'd ask before ordering.

Thanks.

the ALS, no question. Theres no difference in speed, and the als system is very easy to master; its intuitive. The only reason I wouldnt run it, and I dont, is if my handgun has a thumb safety, and it does; its a 2011. If I ran a glock or M&P, Id have it no question. I do have a good amount of experience running these for duty, ccw, and competition with plastic guns. Just trying to lend creedence to my advice.

definitely the ALS. very fast and secure. I don't know which one fits the 34.

Went with the ALS. They do make it for the 34.

Just waiting on it to arrive.

Just to add for future readers of this post, Safariland has the following model for Glock 34 that does not use flip cover retention system.

Safariland 5188 Paddle Holster for Pistols - STX Plain Black, Right Hand 5188-683-411

I have not had issues of it coming loose.

After trying it in a match, I recommend the ALS.

As long as you hit the release (which is very simple), it draws much smoother than the 5188 because it's not using tension to hold the pistol in.

I still like the 5188 for IDPA, pistol-only matches, etc but the 6378 ALS is about perfect for 3-gun.

Will the G34 fit in a G17 holster?

ALS. I ran one I borrowed that was set up for a glock with a slide mounted dot(I just ran Irons) and the draw is easy to master and maby a hair slower if anything than a non retention holster but the gun is not coming out of the holster unless you want it too

The 34 will fit in the 17 als holster but they do make an 6378 holster for the Glock 34/35. I think this is probably one of the best set ups for 3 gun if you're running a Glock. I ran that set up and loved it, really secure but super fast. I wish they made it for a 2011 but they don't and am guessing it's not in their priority list. I recently switched to a sti 2011 and had blade tech custom make me a holster with retention hood. I wish I could run ALS though, it's a great holster.
