I am considering either a 17 long slide or a 34. What are the pros and cons of one or the other?

Glock 34, chance that 17L may not fit in the box.

I have both and prefer the 34, personally. It just handles/balances better in my hands and I shoot it better. But that's MY hands and YMMV greatly.

The box is used in USPSA and IPSC, which can be used in a stage or setup in 3-gun. For some classes, mainly production and single stack, need to fit in the box as a prereq. The dimensions of the box are 8 3/4" x 6" x 1 5/8" (Metric: 22.22 x 15.24 x 4.13 cm) Glock 34 and 1911, bearly fit in the box. The 17L is 8.85" long and 5.43" height,

Glock 17L's are super hard to find. I searched for about a year with no luck. If you can find one i would buy it. The extra long sight radius woudl be great. I use Glock 34's and Glock 35's. They do the job.

I just picked up a 17L as a backup/gun to use while my STI is having some modifications done. I am admittedly not a huge fan of Glock due to the way they fit my hand, but I have to say the 17L feels different and points better than my old 34 for some reason. Probably only in my head but any advantage, even if it is only in my head, is still an advantage in my book.

I will be trying it on my MGM Spinner target tonight.

I shoot a glock 17 in competition. I have a 34 too. I really like the 17L the best. If I had the money I'd have bought the one I tried.

G34/35 is a great size. I have never shot a 24 or 17L but I can not imagine that it is any better.

I gave around 600 for my 17L brand new with 3 mags at a local shop(B&B pawn and jewelry). They had 2 of them. Not sure if they still have the other one. It was the first one ive evern seen in real life and i bought it!! I was looking ar 34s when I found it. If your wanting to shoot limited go with the 17l for sure. Im not sure about the older ones but it is milled more than meets the eye. Mine has a pocket cut out on the oppisite side of the extractor sping in that solid area, a keyway about .5" wide cut inside the slide all the way to the port and of course the typical window on top of the slide. It is LIGHT!! , and points very nicely. As far as the extras that a 34 has, it has all of the same ones(mag button, sights, 3.5# connector). Cheaper than dirt did have 24s and 17ls for a while. Im not sure what the deal is with glock if they make a run every year or what.

if you go with a retention holster, you might find it harder to find one for the 17L...choices are somewhat limited for the 34/35 if you don't want the sight to be exposed...(I use a BladeTech DOH WRS ... as RO have had shooter hook rifle sling on loaded pistol and snatch it out)

What box?

If your talking 3 gun, I have yet to see a match that check to see if pistols fit into a box.
It starts with your head, then use your hands, if you try it in reverse, you don't even have a chance.
