THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
I'm new to 3 gun, so maybe some of you vets can advise me on this.

I have a 26" Benelli M2 with a +6 Nordic extension, which sits about 2in shy of the muzzle. Right now, I am not running a clamp on the barrel. However with usually either dumping or staging the shotgun muzzle down in a barrel, should I add a clamp to help stabilize the mag? Any other benefits to running the barrel clamp? I've heard the clamp changes POI for some folks. I assume this is something I will likely just need to try for myself, but was curious what ya'll with more experience on the matter say.

I have seen enough tubes break to know I will always run a clamp. Some folks claim it affects their slug zero, but I have NEVER had this happen to me in the 30 years I have been running shotgun magazine clamps on my guns. Your especially long tube make this a particularly acute requirement.

Those extra shells put a lot of stress on the joint. I would not run an extension without a clamp.

Both of the above. Also, I only like to lightly snug the tube onto the nut. If I dont have a clamp the tube starts to back out of the nut after obly a few mags worth. Get it.

I have been running a Nordic Tube that holds 12 rounds on a Benelli M2 shotgun with 21" barrel for a couple of years now. I don't use a clamp because I don't like the extra weight at the end of the gun. I did break a tube once when I dropped the gun tube first from shoulder level. It broke a few threads in at the barrel nut. A clamp may have stopped the tube from breaking but I think it still would have bent the tube even with a clamp attached. It hit the ground pretty hard and it was loaded with 14 rounds at the time. If I add a clamp to this gun it does not effect the POI.

I have a 24" barrel M2 that I run a clamp on because adding the clamp makes the gun shoot slugs to POA.

Here is a picture of my 21" gun with the long tube.

Nordic says you don't need a clamp on the Benelli. The clamp made my gun shoot another 6 inches higher than it does now. It still shoots high but not nearly as bad. Some guns need a clamp but not the Benelli.
