Just wondering if anyone here from Alabama has had any luck hunting in the NON WMA areas where its legal to hunt this time of year? I'm dying to go out hunting, but I dont know if i should drive further south  or if there is any hunt-able populations of wild hogs outside of the WMA boundaries but within the national forest? any help is greatly appreciated!

Yea, been there done that.  No thanks.

Two words for you:  Fucking Chiggers.

Having said that: you're right, the WMA areas are retarded for their pig shooting/hunting opportunities whereas, the non-WMA BNF are open 365 days a year.  I would try the extreme NW part of the forest, near the Bear Creek areas.

Good luck!

ticks are EXTREMELY bad in AL this time of year.

I do field work (biology research) in Talladega National Forest multiple times per week.  Usually 3-10 ticks on my clothes (or body) minimum after a half day of walking through the woods.

I rarely come across hogs, but the last sounder I ran across I managed to catch a piglet by hand.  That squealing a-hole of a hoglet was COVERED (100-200+) ticks all over its body in large clusters (armpits, groin, chest, ears, etc).  It was a healthy pig, but the ectoparasite loads this year or ENORMOUS. so keep that in mind.
