I used to have a Surefire Defender (200 lumen) flash light just to carry around before I left it laying once and a coworker stole it. So I was looking at buying a Surefire EB2 (500 lumen) to replace it. I loved the defender but don't really need the aggressive trim on it.
I went to a buddy's last night, and a friend of his was over. He mentioned that he heard I got a fox pro for christmas and said he has a permit for night hunting coyotes, and that we need to put 2 and 2 together. I also have been interested in getting into hog hunting.
I was looking online at lights that either have red/green LED's or accept filters. I checked out some weapon mounted lights like the XLR100 and XLR250, Coyote Light, etc.
But I was hoping to buy a light that is a good all around flash light, instead of something that has very specific purposes.
Would a Surefire hand held EDC with a Red or Green filter work fine for scanning and spotting? I live in Alabama, we don't really have that many fields, it will mainly be timber so I would say our max range would be 100 yards or so. Or should I just pony up and get a hunting purpose light? I would have no problem spending $200 on a good coyote only light but I don't know how often we will be doing this.
