Great shooting. It looks like way too much fun. I have been noticing you have some very photogenic canada geese down by the tank. They are in all the pics. Thought they were decoys until this last photo they are looking at the turkeys. Then again maybe not. They are decs aren't they? ?

Now that's is borderline cheating But I always say, not cheating it's knowing and using your resources.

When I am sniping these big ones out (not just blasting them), with a fragmenting OTM bullet like the Sierra 77 grain MatchKing in those IMI rounds there is not a chance of bone crushing penetration like with a Barnes bullet, so only cure is to slip on into the lungs and blow them both out with the heart, then they only have one breath left, the one they previously took. That takes precise shooting to make a hit like that out 260 yards in the pitch dark.
My SIG 556 and FLIR T-70 with the ACOG TA02 work in excellent harmony together to pull this off over and over again. The bullet entered about two inches behind the scapula through the rib cage and disintegrated on impact showering the lungs with high speed fragments that tore them all to hell, a little too low would have hit the heart, a little too high would have hit the vertebral column, a little to the right would have hit the diaphragm, a little too left would have smashed his fore-shank. It's all good when you can place a shot precisely in the boiler-room Of course, having graduated from veterinary school some 35+ years ago, it does help to have an intimate knowledge of swine anatomy too so you can picture in your mind's eye what your carefully placed bullet is going to head into internally so that you can produce a lethal wound and not just take any shot that presents itself. These lage 350+ pound hogs are tough critters and very difficult to bring down as you know. |

Would it be possible to also compare the other FLIR units to the above?
My only reservation with the new line is the smaller diameter lenses. T50, T60, T70 and anything else you have or can get them to bring. Same field, same night, same heat target, same distance. Just wish I was there to help. Thanks for doing the comparisons in whatever format works for you. |
|
I own two T-70's (one is getting upgraded to a T-75 with 100m lens at FLIR GS), a T-50, and a T-60 myself, so that is not a problem and happy to oblige.
These thermal weapon clip-ons are all hardened and toughened to USSOCOM specifications for use in warfare theaters, so they are a bit of a horse of a different color. The new manual focus RS series 60mm germanium lens is a new design with a higher F number than any previous objective thermal lens, it should perform extremely well with the new 17 micron microbolometers. |

That is so sweet. I would LOVE to pick up the 64/60 but don't have 10k laying around at the moment. Don't know if you can tell me or not but how do they hold up to heavy recoil?? Specifically the 458 socom or the like.

Lots of happy faces. Looks lie the coolers are pretty full....

I could easy see a human being at 3/4 mile and a car over 1 mile and felt comfortable taking a shot at 300 yards with my .308.

Eastern Diamondback?? Big snake. That flir is cool and could be a lifesaver..

I am really digging the sig rifle. I am also coveting that FLIR. I am seriously considering the sig 716 and also one of the 60 series flir. I assume the -35 will do what you are after and thus me too. It is a bit less and might be able to swing that in a year or so.

FLIR RS64-35mm on my kick arse Ruger #1 master sniper blaster, there is absolutely nothing anywhere near my backyard that can survive on handloaded 7mm Rem Mag! |
So far, with current recoil testing that is still in progress, it will withstand recoil up to and including 7.62X51mm in gas operated modern sporting firearms, this does not include 7mm Rem Mag as of yet so don't try this at home as it is not kosher.
All the FLIR GS (Government Service) thermals are rated up to and including Browning .50 cal M2 Full Auto machine gun however if you need something that can handle max recoil...like the T-50, T-60, T-70 and T-75. |

Here is a You-Tube video of the FLIR RS64-35mm thermal weapon scope of some deer out back of the house, my game cam tree they are standing around is a laser measured 175 yards distant, the beginning of the slash pine tree canopy behind that is 225 yards and you can see out into the canopy 300 or so yards clearly. The deer are from 175 to 225 yards in the video.
Pitch black dark out, 50*F, no fog or rain. You can run the video on 720 pixels as that is what it is recorded at for better clarity and representation of what you actually see though the scope: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m3rnZg0wcE&feature=youtu.be |

The Flir RS-32 is on my wish list. What made you decide between the 32 and 64?

Gotcha makes sense. You on Lykes or Alico property by any chance? I was on a Lykes lease last year and they would not allow hunting at night.
|
|
I know Lykes well, but we are up in the Suwannee River Valley in North Florida
