They are built super heavy duty.

Fill the lower black portion up with 40 pounds of gravel and then fill the upper ball with 100 pounds of corn.

Hogs knock it around getting the kernels to dribble out the holes. Holes are reinforced with metal tubes to keep squirrels and coons from messing them up.

Once hogs get on them they stay for an hour or more knocking them around. Deer don't mess with them either.

Saves a lot of corn as 100 pounds last an entire month, compared to my 10 pound corn corn pipes that get emptied out completely in 10-15 minutes, corn lasts longer and hogs stay longer.

Win-Win!

They are very well made, designed for heavy duty use and will pay for themselves over the years in corn not wasted and hogs wacked.

Great people to do business with and I highly recommend their product.

Was riding out to load up the feeders before dark after a long rainy day and as I came around the corner a sounder was on one of my feeders, they took off as I turned the engine off, but then came back out again two minutes later, 200 yard 6.5 Grenedel Hornady 123 gr. SST handload, DRT.

Nice!  Gluttony got the best of that hog!  The rain was relentless yesterday afternoon.  The drought is over so hopefully Mother Nature will give us a break and the grasses will stop growing by the minute.  Thinking about buying a pair of stilts or getting taller.

Man you're warming up to the Grendel quiet nicely. I think I'm fixing to get it's big brother the Creedmoor. Just to have something to plink steel with. Humidity has been killer here we hit a heat index of 107. It's hard to get motivated to fight skeeters and sweat your ass off. But I'm trying not to complain to much about the rain.  I noticed that the pigs are eating my chicken litter as fast as I put it down. I guess they like the cake near the feed lines.

I had just left the house two minutes earlier and when I raised the rifle to shoot the hog both lenses on the ACOG were fogged over from the oppressive humidity.

We had 18" of rain in June after a terrible six month drought and so far everyday in July has been heavy duty thunderstorms with relentless deluges.

The rain does turn on the hogs though, rooting all over the place.

I have often wondered if hog's get hoof rot when it's that wet? You know it brings up the chances in cattle. I caught one with a swollen hoof the other day and it could have been a slight case. Or lead poisoned from a stray  .223.

Yeah I'd say so. Them sneaky bastards give me the crawlys. I hear rumors all the time that there's another kitty around. But I have yet to get a picture or find tracks. Plus it doesn't seem like we're missing any deer. And the last time we had one we started missing deer and calves until the perpetrator was caught.

After you hit the 2000 mark they become a lot of work. I wouldn't wish feral pigs on any one.

Have not have time for any night hunting since Hurricane Irma's eye went over the farm, lost 15 pounds working cleaning up everything destroyed everywhere, had to call the Forest Service a half dozen times for the large burn piles.

Now that everything is cleaned up, finally had a chance to do some scouting and the hogs are all over the place as usual. Apparently the acorn crop is toast this year after the 90+ mph winds, so hogs are running out of vegetation to root and hitting the feeders heavy.

Last night spotted one 200 yards out with the FLIR LS-XR scanner and took him out with the 6.5mm Grendel SBR with handloaded Hornady 123 grain SST pill, earshot and DRT.

Then spotted another with the 556 and FLIR Thermosight @ 100 yards on the 556 with handloaded 77 grain SMK, DRT:

Time to start hunting again!

You have lots of cool toys. You may have mentioned before but what is the length of your grendel sbr barrel?

Also for a first NV or Thermal would uou recommend the PTS233?

Grendel SBR has a Alexander Arms 12” barrel.

PTS233 is a great thermal scope for targeting out 250 yards for beginners or experts.

Just loaded up some Barnes 100 grain TSX for the 6.5mm Grendel SBR and figured I’d try them out on a coon in the backyard feeder at a laser measured 185 yards.

Bang, headshot - DRT.

I be lovin’ me some Grendel SBR.

Thom,
what's the stats on the SBR?
Thanks in advance
Link Posted: 12/21/2017 9:05:07 AM EDT
[#50]
The lower is a Knights Armament KAC-15 registered SBR receiver, the upper is an Alexander Arms 11” cerokoated 6.5mm Grendel.

http://www.shopalexanderarms.com/AR-15_Uppers-_6_5_Grendel_11_SBR_Complete_Upper.html

It is a lightweight tack driving hog killing hammer.

I also use a 16” Alexander Arms Tactical Grendel.

http://www.shopalexanderarms.com/AR-15_Rifles-6_5_Grendel_Tactical_Complete_Rifle.html

Both have 4X-32 ACOG LED with Truijicon RMRs redot for day optics and I swap the FLIR T-70s back and forth between them.
