I hate it when that happens, just makes you want to declare War. How tall was the gate?

That gate is the weak spot, only 4 feet tall, rest of pen is 6 feet....

Yeah, the FLIR train pulled into my backyard and dropped off another load of 500 big ass hogs into the swamps on my property a while back,  it took me about five months of continuous staging with many many long lonely nights waiting to run into this one, and then suddenly there he was in my FLIR T-70 thermal weapon scope!

Maybe someone can tell me the proper way how it is done and clinically dissect each and every photo telling me all about it?

In fact, here is a cool staged IR NV game cam photo of this boar hog a while back at one of my bigger feeders about two miles away from where I actually nailed him with one shot from the tiny HK556 SBR!

I was thinking then that he looked like he would go 425 pounds, but then the internet keyboard commandos would say he's no more than 200?

Don't know what he weighs.

My estimate based on pics?

"Pretty good sized"

Doc, I've read this whole thread from start to finish and must agree -- best friggin' read on ARFCOM.

Thermals, hog-killin', Brevis II, and eats.  Wow!

I am so jelly.

I must say, if I was slayin' that much pork I'd be big as a barn.

Thank you!

I say the pig is still in the BFH category. Without that nice little retriever of a tractor I bet that pig would have stayed where he lay.

Exactly my feelings a well, without the power of some diesel hydraulics he never would have made it back to the barn, and I never would have been able to handle all this by my little lonesome self out in the woods at night either.

He filled two 160 quart coolers and needed the FEL to lift them too.

Thank you, It has been a work in progress, took half a decade to get setup for night hunting these boars but has been time and energy well spent!

And we DO FEED LOTS OF FOLKS, that last boar filled up two 160 quart deep sea igloos with meat, all will be eaten by many.

You HIT the nail on the head as this is what vermin removal is all about!

After removing tens of thousands of pounds of pork annually for more than a decade, the results have been absolutely fantastic!

Lots of coveys of Quail have returned and lots and lots of Eastern and Osceola Turkeys all over the place! The vermin had been destroying all the ground nesting avian species and the removal of lots of the hogs and coyotes has been a true blessing for the Quail and Turkeys. Now I am seeing a half dozen covey of quail just going out to maintain the feeders and the gobbler harvest last year was the best in decades!

Also the deer population has exploded and cannot remember so many fawns and big bucks in the last thirty years now that their food sources are untouched by all the rooting and the fawns are not getting eaten by the coyotes.

Truly a total transformation of the terrestrial wildlife has occurred since I've been culling so many hogs and coyotes.

The alligators are still nice and fat from chowing on pigs when they come down to wallow in the ponds, gator season opens in three weeks and we'll get a couple of nice 10-12 footers out of the prairie ponds!

70 Grain Barnes TSX handloaded in front of 25.0 grains of Hodgdon BLC-2 recovered from 425 pound boar hog, one shot @ 185 yards, DRT.

I took out my micrometer and measured the length of some of the different .224 slugs I've been using just to see how long the copper Barnes TSX really is, here are the results:

Barnes TSX 70 grain - 1.040"

Hornady Match 75 grain - 0.992"

Sierra MatchKing 77 grain - 0.985

Nosler Competition 77 grain - 0.982

Barnes TSX 62 grain - 0.945

Nosler 69 grain - 0.900

Sierra 69 grain 0.890

As you can see, the Barnes are the longest slugs on the market that will run in an AR magazine.

Exit wound on coyote at 225 yards with Barnes 70 grain TSX handload:

The Eagles certainly enjoy the Barnes 70 grain TSX too!

Here is another handloaded 70 grain Barnes TSX bullet recovered from a 375 pound boar shot @ 200 yards after it toasted both lungs and embedded in the shield on the other side, DRT.

My experience with the 70 grain Barnes TSX out of my 5.56 NATO rifles and SBRs is that the pill needs to be traveling 1,800 fps or greater to petal properly.

This gives me a 225 yards kill zone which is absolutely perfect for my night hog/coyote hunting activities.

Managed to capture the backyard gator at sundown and took thermal video of him with the FLIR M-18.

Will post later on when edited.

Did not manage to get any NV video as the sun had set and too much light, we caught him sooner than expected...
