THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Met Fred and Kenny up there and they had already fixed the check valve on the pump so we had water. I took up some grouper and some Gator tail and I fried it up for dinner, made some habanero, garlic, and fish sauce dipping sauce and we feasted. Saturday we moved a covered porch into position so we could have a covered common cooking and eating area, then put some electrical to it, and a counter top for food prep and were done by noon. I took a shower and a nap in my frosty trailer while the guys went to a funeral of an old timer that we lease some of our land from (I didn't know him well so I skipped it). That afternoon about six I went for a walk around my area and took my 6.8 AR with Trijicon scope in case I saw a pig. Sure enough after walking around my food plot I took the road to a spin feeder at the end of the ridge. As i was walking I see a pig walking up the road toward me and got me a sow about 100lbs.
I roasted the bones for stock.
I'm going to cook the ribs real slow and take the to a party on the 4th. Boned out the hams, and back straps, and ground some for sausage.

Nice Pig, I asked the same question about 10 years ago and was told to clean it two or three times and it would be fine. Ended up having to have a skin graft on my finger and huge piece was gone into the gut bucket. Its fine now!

You have a better chance of winning the lottery than getting anything from your cut finger, just clean it good.

I've got cut a couple of times cleaning hogs one time pretty good by my highly intoxicated buddy. I'm still alive and fine for the most part.
That said, you could also catch some terrible disease and be permanently debilitated or die. You'll probably be fine though. ![]() |

That would be awesome. You will be fine. Pigs are almost always clean. |

any brucillosis (that can't be spelled right) in your area?
ok, here is the drill. clean and disinfect the cut asap. use better gloves next time, you do use gloves right? If you experience any flu like symptoms in the next 30 days or so, be sure to tell the Dr that you may have been exposed to ticks and to a wild hog. We had a very experienced hog hunter / skinner in Tomball get very sick from it. Caught early it is not that bad, but if you wait it can be dramatic. |

I know a guy who cleaned a deer, washed his hands off with water and then put in a dip and got pretty sick. So I know someone who actually got buck fever! Odds are you won't get sick but there's still a decent chance that you could. A much better chance than winning the lottery. |

I have never heard of any problems with wild hog from anyone I know personally. Some people like to scare others by using the TB threat. |

Caught early it is not that bad, but if you wait it can be dramatic. a wound culture came through my dept (microbiology) a couple months ago that grew brucillosis. Occ. health is following everyone who got within 4 ft of it. The person was trapping coons according to the doctor. A few years ago a hog hunter got it. Its not stopping me from hunting, but then I am confident I would be diagnosed. In both cases the patient had been elsewhere and misdiagosed. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
