THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT Joe tried to tell me at the time that I need to use his night vision outfits, but I'm hard headed and wanted to shoot one with one of my rifles that I had put so much into. After looking thru my scope, after dark, we decided it would be best to use his after all. Turned out to be a wise decision, especially after missing the first hog (Joe said it was hit, but we never could find it).. One thing I learned from this hunt backs up what many others have already said - Joe will bust his ass to put you on hogs. He does everything but shoot them for you. Example #1: We rode around to the ridge overlooking the trail we came in on. Joe had scattered bait along it earlier. He left us as he walked down some 400 yds to check things out. By this time I had switched from my rifle (6.8mm) to his 6.8 on which was mounted an Eotech and PVS-14. Man, that setup is the scnizzle! Anyway, Joe signals us to walk to down We were just about to him when the hogs decided to leave, for whatever reason. The trail we were on continued through a gate. I raised the rifle to look farther down the trail and spotted a group crossing about 110 yds away. I set the rifle on the shooting stick (also provided), got a sow behind the dot, and boom!
Took the hams and backstraps off her for some good eating to come. We estimated she weighed 110-120 lbs.So after cleaning and cutting her up, we got back out around 11;45. Joes step-son and his GF were with us up until then. She walked up while Joe was working on the sow and let us know that it was "game over" for her. Guess she wasn't ready for that part. So, Joe and I head back out. We were hunting 400 acres of about 1600 that Joe uses. A lot of what we hunted was Sabine river bottom. We sat on a couple spots, went back to a couple places we had visited earlier. We were cruising a cut-out made by Joe earlier in the week right along side the river when a boar stepped out and stared to cross. He stopped in the middle of the cut-out, not more than 40 yards away. Stood just long enough for me raise the rifle and drop him with shot to the spine. Now, you have to understan that, although he was awful close, I was sitting in the front seat of big red, while it was idling. Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it! We rode up and finished him off with a shot to the head from Joe's .45. Joe said he would go about 215 lbs. The tusks were probably 2 inches.
All in all, I could not have wished for a better experience. I did not once feel like I was "just any client". Joe has a way of making you feel like you've known each other for awhile (he's just good folk), and never made me feel like the greenhorn I am. I will be going back, as soon as I can find the time, and HIGHLY recommend Joe to anyone. Thanks again, Joe. It was a blast. |

Great Job, Joe gets you on the hogs and keeps you laughing the whole time. Just DON'T joke about pig hunting. He'll take your head off.

Thanks to you txsaint, you hold the record for the closest shot from the front seat, I never would of believed it, that hog thought 'if I hold still they won't see me' haha he wont get another chance.
bldsmith y'all still hold the largest this year on a recovered hog...txsaint and I walked past 4 smaller hogs at 35 yards just south of where y'all took yours to take a shot at a biggun...maybe 280 lbs. |

Still would like to know how big that one we made that loooong shot at was. We know he was hit but got into those pencil pines and could not track him. Anyhow still fun memories.

Well I don't want y'all to get a swelled head but I shot the distance with the range finder and TheRedGoat was right it was tipping 300 yards.. My 6.8 made the shot, TRG's m-16 hit somewhere way to the right just like it did on the yotee..haha |

Yup, thought it was hitting right. The son made the long shot and the shot through the chest on the hog we killed. I think My shot blew out it's spine or took out it's rear leg. The spine was along the line of where I was actually aiming, just a bit further back. Still in all a great hunt and great fun. Will bring my own hog gun next time. Need to save some pennies for the NV though.
