Went in at 5:20 am, canoed across the lake, to where I killed my two deer this year. Weather is clear / no wind 38 degrees with a high of 65. A beaver greeted me 1/2 way across the glass lake. Overcast, no moon. A beautiful dark quilted sky paddle. Waited till 9:30 to see my first pig. A small black hog. He was traveling pretty good and just visible at 50yds. No shot. He didn't circle round, and I did not spook it. 12:15 came around, the only reason I'm still here is I can hear branches breaking - finally I hear pigs walking to me. They arrive and top over to my finger ridge at 40 yards. Walking right to me. Four full grown hogs. One with the markings like a fat German Shepard, a black, and two browns. I wait motionless until they are 25 yards out. Then I open up. Lead pig goes down hard, second veers left, I wing it. It charges, I end that with a second solid hit. Black one (third) turns left in front of me, I pass a .308 thru the ribs it begins "Wagner spray gunning" the bushes. Fourth has gotten past me, but I have a clear shot at 100yds up hill. I send one. It stumbles, but disappears. Five shots five hits, three hogs recovered , and the last one feeds the coyotes. Those 165gr JSP reallllly are nasty. The FAL was a superb choice for that day. No chasing animals in the scope. Both eyes open, robust FSB dropping on target. Ammo that had immediate disabling effect. RELIABLE. Love it. Of course I'm still asking- witch county did my brass land in? Lol. All my hits were rib cage or low neck. The fourth was blood trail to 300yards. No pig. It's eradication hunting. So no ethical dilemma. Yotes and vultures gotta eat too. I gutted and skinned the pigs, wrapped them in game bags, and got them all in the canoe. Got them home and put them on ice. (Used every cooler I own.) butchering took 8 hours. I have 70 lbs of ground pork, and 65 lbs of ham steaks. Two rear quarters for smoking, and two shoulders for the same. 7 roasts, and 6 back straps, and loins. http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/oneissuevoter/2B825BCD-4D24-4A14-90E8-B884D8F087C8.jpg http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/oneissuevoter/BF3C729C-E370-4DF5-83D1-2B3B8DC84BCC.jpg http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/oneissuevoter/35D96ECE-A17B-4F54-AD11-5E13F6C95C5D.jpg http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/oneissuevoter/47CB296A-1DDC-498E-96E6-E25B794D8829.jpg http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/oneissuevoter/3678BDA9-9301-4C9A-852B-9C3B1A839069.jpg http://i1201.photobucket.com/albums/bb358/oneissuevoter/2CDC10C6-ECA7-4268-BC75-9D29183924A3.jpg Just one of eight grindings- holy crap. Not so much further north, central OK is impossible to hunt hogs unless you own the land or pay for "professional" hunts and that pretty much defeats the point. |

Nice equipment and pics Thursday mike. You do a number on em. I'm using gen3 nv and just got a thermal scope. Anyways, glad to hear u still have work in the oilfields. Let me know if you hear of anyone hiring any honest, safe, hardworking entry level guys on any rigs. I assume the price per barrel is gonna have to be over $65 for a new guy with no experience like me to get on though. Anyways, can't hurt to throw a line out. Happy hunting!
