Note from Bill-
"Just returned from a 19-day hunt in S Africa that was probably the most successful of my 27 trips to Africa beginning in 1979. In addition, it was grandsons Josh and Hunters first trips to Africa and I got to do a lot of hunting with Josh, which was a lot of fun. Josh turned 13 while on the hunt and shot a Cape Buffalo the day after his birthday. I primarily hunted with one of our Recon Tactical ARs in .458 SOCOM and Josh did all of his hunting with me with it also. This was my second trip to Africa that I primarily hunted with the .458 SOCOM and like the 2014 trip it performed flawlessly on tough African game animals. I can't stress enough how effective these rifles and bullets perform on tough game. Shots were from 60 to 180yds, with most in the 80-120yd range. All total between Josh and I took 29 animals with the .458 SOCOM using 35 rounds and only two of the extra shots we actually needed to put the animal down."
My gear was as follows:
WC Tactical Recon SR (14.7" bbl) .458 SOCOM (Converted to Single Shot)
Leupold VX-6 2-12x42
Barnes 300gr TTSX at 1670fps MV
