upon planning my next trip to SA I've been talking to my PHs about bringing them some reloading components for the rifles I left for them last trip. But I'm unsure about bring empty brass casings, or pulled bullets into the country without adding to my ammo restriction weight.

To be clear I would only be bringing unprimed cleaned rifle brass, and new bullets for them to reload, no powder no primers just the main components. But I'm not sure if its allowed to bring into the country. Anybody done something similar? Can't seem to find anything online saying it's not allowed but I know how it is over there, and want to stay out of prison

Any help is appreciated thank you!

I've shipped empty brass to SA without any issues.
That's not the same as bringing it through checked luggage though.

They generally have a problem with primers and powder. Based on the laws I dealt with when I lived there (they have changed the laws some), you could only have brass/ ammo for the caliber that you have a license for. If you take a 30-06 to hunt, then make sure you only have 30-06 brass on you.

IM replied to.
And yes, it is wise to stay out of prison in SA. I did a few hours in the holding cells and it was not a memorable experience. I felt like a piece of meat sitting there. Now I know what college girls feel like in spring

Very late to the party I know but unprimed brass is not a licensed or restricted item in South Africa.

DHL turned a package with 100 unprimed 7.62*39 brass around that I tried to send to a friend in Za...happened 2 weeks ago. Said the x-ray caught it...can't send "gun parts". It was labelled as toys. Apparently the problem was on the US side!
