looks like it will be a good few days of shooting. The yearly brood report says that the numbers appear to be up by 42%.

I am considering a trip or two myself this year, do you have a place you normally go?

yeah, Wessington Springs. The owners of the lodge we stay at are real good people and they have nearly 5k acres we shoot over. I go out with a bunch of retired DEA, DOJ, Customs, and LEOs from other alphabet law agencies. I've been the only retired civilian in the group for about 5 years. Great guys and fantastic shooting.

I just drove through SD.

Cover looks much better than in years previous, not nearly as dry either.  Doesn't look like any emergency haying was done.

if your paying to hunt on commercial lodge land, rooster numbers are "up" every year...even if they are advertising "100% wild birds."
That being said, numbers of wild birds do appear to be up; where habitat is good.

Hell, I don't listen to the guys running the lodge, I go by the state sponsored  bird census...........though I didn't make the trip last year  my  fellow group members said they did rather well, two days they limited and the third they were three birds short for 14 guys.
