Mainly duck hunting with a little pheasant thrown in. Right now I have a rem 870 super mag that has treated me well, but I am thinking that I should move up to the semi auto. I was all set to buy the versa max waterfowl pro, but this new V3 looks pretty nice. Downside I see is that the V3 has no capability for 3 1/2" shells.

Thoughts?

Staying with remington because I don't want to spend $1900 on a shotgun

It's more like $1200 and change NIB off gunbroker.  I bought 2 that way last year.

Beretta's are gross.  They are bulky and uncomfortable IMO.

I would choose the v max or the v3 just because the v3 is so new, and will have some issues for that reason. Remington has had some bad rep for a few years now but I find the Vmax reliable and Seem worth the money. It call comes down to what fits you best.

I, too, would like to get my hands on a V3. Cabela's has them on their site, but haven't seen any in store. Other stores that were expecting to have them in July are now being told possibly September by Remington. Randy Wakeman speaks highly of the V3.

As for which one to get...do you want a 3" gun with no frills or do you want a 3.5" gun with more bells and whistles? In between? Look at the Versa Max Sportsman, can be had for $900 or less but less features than the VM/VM Waterfowl.

Despite what some people think of Beretta, they do know a thing or two about Shotguns. The A400 is a little expensive, but look into the A300 Xtrema for a 3.5" gun in the $1,000 or less range or the A300 Outlander for a 3" gun in the $650-800 range depending on finishes and what not.

I've had the Vmax for three seasons now and the only complaint I have about it is the magazine tube cap loosens itself over time. Nothing major however I find myself checking it all the time. I don't know much about the V3 however I do like the ability to shoot 3.5" shells if need be. I personally like having the third shell in the tube as a 3.5 once the migrators start coming in as well for divers. I also really like knowing that if I were to run out of shells in the blind, everything a buddy hands me, I can shoot. I have never had any sort of malfunction with mine over the years and do believe it to be a great firearm. Hope this helps!

Happy hunting!

You might have an older style magazine cap. There was a recall and a new style was re-issued. Call Remington and see if they'll send you a new one.

Think 3 B's.  Benelli, Beretta or Browning.

An A400 is none of those things...  I can't speak to other models.

I hunted ducks with 2 guys using Versa Maxes last season.  Both had LOTS of problems, they were basically single shots.

I was wanting one before I saw the first gun, and you couldn't pay me to shoot one after the second.
