You bet...I start watching the calendar as soon the January season closes. I picked up two more MoJos at the end of last season, when the were on sale.
I usually book a day hunt opening day or weekend with a guy that operates near Waco. Vacation is a given for that date. Couple of my buddies have some fair hunting over stock tanks...I help shoot their dove, they help blast hogs on my place. That's good for a couple of hunts a year. A couple of guys at work and I also usually get in one or two hunts a year, on vaguely work related boondoggles. One of those, just outside of Brownsville, was absolutely outstanding last year. I hope I get a chance to go back there this year. I've been saving for 5 years to afford going back to Argentina to SHOOT dove in September, but I'll be in a harvested corn field, somewhere in Johnson County, the day before I get on the plane for that trip. |

I have a little place in Coleman county that I can hunt. But you will walk about a half mile for every dove you get a shot at. If you can bag more than 10 a day there you have been on your "A" game. I've got a friend with a nice place near Freer that has birds galore and I enjoy every moment I am there. I enjoy all types of hunting, but I have more fun hunting dove than hunting anything else. I need to save some $ and go to Argentina.

Do you go to executive outfitters in brownsville? |

Yes. Absolutely 1st class operation. We went toward the end of the season, but they put us on plenty of dove.
Limited out both afternoons, at least an hour before sunset. |

This will be the most memorable opening day for me as my daughter will have just been born. My family and I hunt in Hondo, TX with the Charlie Mummie on Sep 1 and the Sammy Nooner operation which I have to say is top notch several times until the North Zone opens where I can hunt on my property.

I got my Argentina dates for 2013 this week....the ides of March.
The outfitters started to see a bounce back up from the 50-70% occupancy reductions of 2008-2010 in 2011, but participation is dropping again and it is showing in the rates. The same package I did last season is $400 less, now includes 1000 "free" rounds, and the price of shells has been reduced by almost 20%. The flight has gone up about $150 to $1350. I was planning on participating in the AZ season, but now I'm not so sure. It's probably more trouble than it's worth for a measly 10 shots. |

7M3,
I and I'm sure many others are hoping for some more pics of your next trip to Los Ombues. I really want to go there, and I am sure I will. The one thing that scares me about it is I will probably be spoiled for life by the experience and may lose my excitement for dove hunting here. However, that is a risk I am willing to take. |

On our last ride out, about a mile down the road, I told my partner "You know, we really should have them set up a waist high pile of doves 6' feet long with an equally large mountain of spent hulls." He said "Son of a bitch....your right." |

We typically go through 2 boxes of shells per day in the field where we go.
Although, our doves killed/shots fired ratio is getting better and better every year. This will be my 4th season dove hunting. I have far more fun hunting doves than I do hunting deer. |

Go through 100 shells a week all summer under the tutelage of a qualified shotgun coach and you will get your limit with an equal amount of shells. You won't even bother shooting at the easy 30 yard birds. |

We're just in it for fun really. When I say 2 box's of shells i'm talking 1 box/person. We typically down 35-40ish birds combined if we shoot all 50 shells between the two of us. |

Excited is an understatement. dove hunting is my favorite flavor of hunting. So sept 1 at noon the family tradition continues. Maybe I can hit something this year, my last hunt last year I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn.

Keep your head on the stock and keep the gun moving as you shoot. It's only when you start shooting them at 65+ yards do you need to move into school bus length leads. Last year I had a lone pigeon fly over at nose bleed height. I swung on him and kept thinking "more...more...more." I had to be 25 feet or more in front of that bird when I shot. There was a significant delay between the shot and seeing the bird struck. I literally drank half a beer before that bird hit the ground. ![]() My bird boy, Wawa, said "holy chit. Usted es el campeón!!!" The 28 ga. kills so much better than it should on paper. The patterns are always wonderful. A purpose built 28 ga. on a scaled frame is thee epitome of what a dove gun should be. |

It is weird some days I can get out there and knock em down. Limit with one box in 45min(we have a great field every yr) then the next week can't hit 15 with three boxes. Regardless I always have fun.

Most field gunners are inconsistent performers. Spend some time at your gun club shooting skeet and then sporting clays. Take a couple of lessons from a certified instructor that you get along with. You'll see a dramatic improvement in your consistency. |
