Just wondering what ya'll are using. This will be my first year really hunting for them.

So far I have a 26" barrel Remington 870, TruGlo Gobble Stopper choke, and Fed flight control #5. I'm not to sure if I should use the turkey choke with them or not. I have heard I should use a Mod or Improved cyc for this load.

I use a 50-something year old Savage 20 gauge; 28-inch barrel; full choke; 3-inch chamber; single shot. I think it's a Model 94. It's very light and practically disposable. I took it apart, cleaned it, sanded all the external surfaces and painted it that flat, green camo krylon color and then clear coated it. I think it's perfect apart from needing a sling. My long-time hunting buddy is thinking about switching from his 10 gauge to a 20 like mine. Don't get wrapped around the firearm/ammo axle. What you have is fine. I'd use a full choke.

I use Winchester Supreme-X, 1-1/4 #6, 3-inch. I've gotten use to turkeys having a tendency to "come back to life" after appearing to be shot dead on the spot. I reload immediately after shooting, but so far, I haven't had to re-shoot one. They're just going through their death throes I guess. It might be that super-gauge, # shizzle shot puts them down permanently from the get go; I don't know.

Being in the woods is the important part.

I bought a Field and Stream vest; I probably paid too much for it at Dick's. I like it though. The pouch in the back is right for carrying a turkey. The biggest pouch I use for my water bottle is nearly too small though. I guess the mesh pocket at the right on the waistline is for a thermacel. There are plenty of pockets, but it ain't no backpack. The seat cushion is comfortable, but I can't figure out the "automatic" operation of it that's claimed. I unclip it to sit.

I quit carrying a rainsuit. I carry a small, collapsible umbrella instead. I'll just have to get wet if I have to set up on a turkey in rain. I keep thin, camo gloves in the vest and my veil is built in to my baseball style cap. My diaphram call is handy in the vest too.

I don't think one needs the latest camo with the shreds of material on them. Otherwise, camo is vital.

For camo I'm going to use a suit made by Russel's that I got at Gander thats water proof, and I have a old turkey vest that I bought years ago that I use for "stalk hunting" deer. I also just picked up a pair of Rocky Lynx side-zip snake boots, Man do I love those boots!!!

I'm going to try to do some more patterning with my other chokes (full and mod.) to see if they can do better then the truglo. The truglo's best pattern was at 30 yards which is do-able, but I would like to be able to reach out to at least 45yards.

while more expensive the hevi 13 loads in size 6 and 7 usually pattern very well, even lead 6 is probably going to look better on paper anyway seems the tungsten shot shells are becoming more popular with turkey hunters.

I "set-up" on four birds this weekend––two Friday and two Saturday––but didn't get one. One came within 20 yards of me but was in dip and so I couldn't see him. He was the only one of the four that came to my call, but I was able to get a good position on him before setting up; just bad luck with the terrain. The other three were what I call a chase set-up. This is when I can tell he's heading in the direction I'm going to his gobbling. I reckon turkeys don't like to turn back from the direction they're going as they're making their rounds. I've had them veer off their path to come to me, but I haven't had one yet turn around and come back. I ran out of hunt club land before I could get in front of them. Frustrating, but at least I'm getting a lot of action.

Try to figure out which way they're going and cut them off if possible. Where I hunt, it isn't terrain that blocks a walk-around, but vegitation; mostly blackberries.

I walked up on one that was gobbling earlier, but had quit. I have to remember that just because they stop gobbling, they don't vanish––they're still there. I could have killed him if I had been ready. He was flying away from me (got up only about ten yards in front of me on the trail I was on) and still, I could see his beard; he was BIG!; looked like about 22 lbs. I was focused on the two who were gobbling beyond him and was walking rapidly on the trail; making a bee line; got busted.

I didn't hear squat yesterday.

I have been using my Benelli Nova, Winchester Supreme XX Magnum Turkey 3 1/2" 2 1/4 oz. I have been pretty lucky and I got 14 birds the last 10 years. Biggest was 24lb 10 1/2 inch beard. Last year, I got second biggest, 23lbs, double beards 10 i and 5 inch. It's at the taxidermist now.
