We have been going out west for several years now hunting SD and NE. With the price of gas this year we're looking at maybe just hitting NE and KS to knock about 16 hours of driving off our trip. I've looked at all the stuff the KDWPT puts out as well as the WIHA maps and see some good looking areas... was just wondering if anyone had any real world experience hunting some of the public land in the north central area and could kinda point us in the right direction.

Thanks!

I hunt on federal land around Clinton Reservoir near Lawrence. I'm not much of a turkey hunter, just scouted around a couple times until I found a place I liked. I killed a hen my first fall hunt. Have been back in the spring and again in the fall without any luck, but I only hunt a few days per season due to a busy work schedule.
Maybe this year I'll learn how to use a call.

Can't help you the north central area, but I have killed a truckload of deer and the only turkey I've ever shot on the public land around Elk City lake, near Independence.
I've tried to see things from the liberal point of view ... but I'm just not flexible enough to get my head up my ass.
