We've had quite a bit of rain lately, so expect some mud. And quail hunting is a lot of walking in fields and light brush areas, so you need a good pair of
comfortable boots. It's been both warm and cold (by our standards) here lately so check the forecast for the Hattiesburg area for the dates you will be there. Since you could be in some brush, a good pair of Carthartt or other brush resistant pants would be good. It may be warm enough for jeans and a long sleeve shirt, but jeans won't keep the thorns out of your legs. I've hunted (deer) on days where I was wearing a good pair of insulated underwear, jeans and flannel shirt, and insulated Carthartt bib overalls and jacket over that and was still freezing my butt off in the morning. By 11 a.m. I had removed the Carthartts and was trying to figure out how to take the insulated underwear off. In other words, if you have used your air conditioning and heat on the same day, you might be from Mississippi. Be safe, wear the pre-requisite orange vest (our game wardens don't have a sense of humor), and have fun. Wish I had a bunch of fried quail right now. |
