THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT a) my son did NOT handle a firearm at anytime due to his age and NYS and DEC laws/regulations b) he wore hearing protection the entire time and c) I contacted NYS DEC the other day to check if it was OK for him to be in the field because he is 7, and they encouraged and fully supported him going out and wished us good luck That being said Today was opening day for duck and goose. My son has been practicing his calls from the Ducks Unlimited website. He has been waiting to go hunting with Daddy for some time now. We got up early and everything was packed and ready to go the night before.
We headed out met my friend and hunting partner to set up decoys before sun up while patiently Liam stood on shore. As the sun rose he sat in the blind, called out his "tick-it" and "quick" calls using the calls I bought hiim. He was loving every minute of it.
It was so cute to here him say "ducks 10 o'clock low" etc... We had a great day. We hit brant and buffleheads however unfortunately were only able to retrieve one As soon as they hit the Great South Bay the tide pulled them out quickly.
Another reason to get the Labrador that Liam wants... It was agreat experience and my son loved it. He had a great time. He want's to get the Brant taxidermed (I'm gonna go to Fins to Feathers) because "this one is special" as he put it. He wants it in his room.
and of course he knocked out on the way home. He wants to go turkey hunting in the spring and deer hunting this season as well.
God Bless and hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving, as I am thankful for the many beautiful things I have in life including my Son and his being in remission. Respectfully, Anthony aka perimedik |

Outstanding!
That's really cool to see, you'll have a lifelong hunting buddy now. My son did the same thing on the way home from our first hunt this year as well |

We took my buddy's son out at 7 y/o. We let a bird swim into the decoys and let him shoot it. It was the first time he ever shot a gun. He was ecstatic.
You've just damned your son to a life of poverty, btw.

He does however own a 22/410 combo as well as his own compound bow. I am going to get him a BB rifle for the backyard. He has earned his BB rifle and Archery badges from cub scouts. I also take him shooting BB and Archery as often as time permits

If you want to keep em occupied and help the hunt, one of those remote controlled ducks keeps em occupied for a long while.

The Taxidermy is back
He is so excited. He is drawing a "habitat" for it to put on his wall behind it. |

That's awesome!
My son is 9. We went out a couple times this year looking for squirrels w/o any luck. We did go to the range a few times so that he could shoot his single shot .22 and some of my guns, he's hooked. His goal is to get various animal pelts to hang on his bedroom wall. I think it's cool, Mom is less than enthusiastic ![]() |

yea, my wife is not digging it however he did bring it to the school bus stop.
He told all the other kids about it. Even the bus driver was impressed with his knowledge of the bird... He will bring it to show and tell and do a report on Brants. |

Nice! Glad he's so excited about it. Nice to see the followup with the taxidermy too(not bad turnaround time either, my wait is commonly 6 months).

That's awesome.
If you're ever going to have a bird mounted that's not going to get dragged to the bus stop & school, you might want to check into a different taxidermist. |

I wanted wings out however I showed him pics of mounted birds and that was the pose he picked out. I wanted a swooping pose to mount on the wall but gave him the choice to do what he wanted. |
