Anybody out there using subsonic 300 Blackout to kill raccoons? Or is it over kill?

a 22 works fine for Raccoons. 300Blk would make a mess of one.

my first thought was like taking a bazooka to a squirrel hunt

We use shorts and CBs.

I'd never even think of using anything centerfire on coons, but then again, I only go out when prices get over $20 for a pelt.

22lr. I only hunt them around the playoffs when i can sell the meat for 20-25 bucks. I don't know of anyone in my area (SW MS) that buys pelts and the meat only sells around the bowl games.

are you hunting for meat/fur, or are you eradicating vermin? If you don't care about the meat or pelt, you can use almost anything to dispatch one. When we were overrun with the damn things, I was using .45acp.

I've used 308 subsonics on them.  They'll flail around after they've been shot no matter where you hit them.  I've nailed them right in the head and they still flop around.  I need to use a 30 cal due to me being in a residential area, and I don't own a .22 can.  Suppressed .308 or 300 BLK would be awesome for this.

You say that like its a bad thing.

Most folks don't eat raccoon... so it's not like there is a lot of interest in preserving the meat...

I'd be doing it as pest control for a friend with alot of property.  He has a trapper friend who does hides, so I thought since he's letting me hunt I'd give the coons to his friend. I have a 300blk and a suppressor so I'd like to use it to keep things quiet as his wife is very sick. The shooting may be real close to the house.
