I was having no luck finding a source of Walnut husk. So I decided to try leaves, I got out the crab cooker put in about 5 gal of water bought it to a rolling boil and added two 5 gal buckets of maple leave. I let the leaves boil for 30 minutes.  Then put in a dozen conibear 110's. I boiled them for 1 hr,  they are nice and black.
All it cost was a little propane!
