I like to hit them with a tennis racket. They hover near your head and call your bluff. When they stand still mid air I swing and hit them with the racket and they hit the ground and are done. Last year I had 28 in one day. I've only seen a few this year so hopefully I'm making a dent in them. They do some damage.

I wonder how one would skin and cook them?
How many does it take to make a meal from? If there are that many out there, sure would seem like a waste not to eat `em......

I like using my S&W 617 and shot shells. I have dropped a few jaws by shooting them out of mid flight. I kept the fact that I was shooting shot shells to myself.
And to quote the Beastie Boys "I did it like this I did it like that, I did it with a wiffle ball bat". |

Savage sells a smoothbore 22 long rifle, designed to properly shoot those 22 shot shells. I have long considering buying one for the sole purpose of wingshooting wood bees. It would be a hell of a lot of fun.

I have shot a LOT of them over the years and have come to the conclusion that they are really only good for bees at no more than 10'. after that the pattern opens up to a useless level. |

They really do. The rifling in a normal barrel tends to open the pattern into a donut shape. I'm getting one of the savage smoothbores for testing with flechettes and sabots, but I'll try to give a range report the next time I see those chipmunks that laid claim to my parent's cabin. |
