Rizzo or Hyperwrx,
This is a little off the subject but...I was wondering...on page six of this thread theres a pic of you guys with the coyote hanging on a portable stand. Did you guys make that stand or is it "store bought"? I'd like to have something like that for the areas here where there are lots of small cedar trees. Seems like it would be just the ticket for moving around easily but still being up high enough to see.

It is home made and it kicks total ass. Predators come in and they don't even see you - literally they don't look up. A friend of mine had a coyote run under his ladder and Hyperwrx had a bobcat sit down at the foot of his ladder.

ETA: You can use a regular ladder without all the additions - just stand on the thing and you'll be amazed at how much more you'll see, plus it makes hunting the thick stuff much easier.

Thanks Rizzo. It looks pretty easy to make and I think it would work really well in some of the areas that I hunt.

I've always felt obligated to eat what I shoot.  Excluding people.

I haven't hunted predators yet....

Yeah . . . didn't get around to skinning it, got too busy with hunting! Cat is still in my freezer. Just stay tuned and when I have time to thaw it and skin it, I'll eat it. Maybe this weekend? Maybe next? But shouldn't be past next weekend - it'll happen!

In the bobcat pic? It's a Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun with camo wrap on the barrel. My medicine of choice? Winchester 3" Magnum 00 buck - 15 pellets of death.

how close where you to the bobcat again?
Link Posted: 3/27/2008 8:34:10 PM EDT

No more than 10 or 15 yards - why?

a full choke would've made a hell of a mess
what coke do ya call with usurally?

Actually, I use a full choke, and it does less pelt damage than my AR - the holes are so small you can see them unless you look at the skin side, and then you just sew them up.

I HAVE SET THE DATE: In order to train the next generation of hunters, the bobcat that is still in my freezer will be skinned by my Boy Scouts on May 17th - the eating will take place on May 18th. As before, there will be video and pics.

Oh yeah - gettin anxious!

Rizzo, I think you should wait until you have another Bobcat before you skin it. That way you could show the Boyscouts that there's more than one way to skin a cat. (Sorry couldn't help myself).

The time has come! The bobcat is in my belly! And the verdict is . . . . tasty!

I shot this bobcat a while back, but have kept it in the freezer, awaiting the day I had time to skin it and eat it. I decided to take my Boy Scout Troop out with me when I skinned it - they loved it and a few even got their hands dirty! A big thanks to Fred for his help in enhancing my fine skinning skills!

I cut off a bit of backstrap, just like I did with the coyote (see Page 6) and cooked it up sans seasoning - gotta get the full effect. It was actually pretty good! So here's some pics, and at the end, a link to the video.

First up : Breakfast Pic!

After skinning I cut it out

Cooking it up - looks a bit like chicken

And of course, THE VIDEO!

At least you drank a nice tall beer with it!

Glen, we need to get you back down here to civilization where we eat normal things, hamburgers, tater tots, and Pop Tarts.  You're getting a little strange.

I thought it was apple juice.  Being breakfast and all.

Sweet.  I've yet to see a bobcat here in Arizona.  Just keep trying I guess.  I can see my wifes face when she asks me what's for dinner after I shoot one.

is the meat kind of soft like chicken or like beef texture
Link Posted: 5/20/2008 6:04:28 PM EDT
[#49]
It was soft and tender, and juicy - it was good! The coyote was more like beef that had been overcooked and marinated in urine - very tough and not too much for the flavor.
