Wanted to know what round you guys are having the best results with. Going to have anywhere from 40 to 400 yards shots using a 16 inch upper.
|
|
[#1]
What are the specs on your upper? 400 yards is pushing it for the 6.8. the Hornady 120 SST and the 85-95 gr Barnes (T)TSX solid coppers are both a good deer round.

[#4]
95 gr ttsx is what I use in mine. All deer have been drt from 50 to about 160 yds out f stag 20 inch threaded and through a form 1 suppressor

[#5]
Most likely shot will be 200 yards or less but further is a possibility.

[#6]
110g pro hunter from silver state
and the last deer I shot with 6.8 was a 110g v-max. deer didn't go very far. |

I use 90gr gold dots with great success. View Quote XM68GD has been destroying whitetails in my woods this season. Furthest shot I've had was a bit over 200 yards. I've only recovered one bullet so far, I was quite impressed. Attached File |

400 yards is too far for 6.8 on deer IMHO. I love my 6.8 but would not take a shot over 300 yards. I have had great success with federal MSR 115 grain.

|
[#9]
I use the nosler 110gr. accubond going about 2450fps out of my 16 inch ar performance barrel. destroyed the heart on the doe I got with it.

I have used a bunch of different loads on deer. I've never had one survive that I hit. I dropped a spike today with a v-max. Hit him in the spine and he didn't even twitch. Thee other deer asse at the feeder looked at him nervously for a moment then went on like nothing happened.
The only round I wouldn't use is fmj. |

Anyone using the Hornady 110 grain v-max SST is more accurate in all of my 68's over the vmax and has better penetration. The Vmax is more of varmint type bullet. And it doesn't get great accuracy in most barrels for some reason. The 120 SSTs expand down to about 1500fps. |

I forgot to inject that I will be using commercial ammo not planning on hand loads .

I used 120gr SST on two big bucks this past season. One at 224yds dropped in it's tracks and the other at about 60 yards went about 20 yards before dropping. I was using a PSA 1:11 16" mid-length

The 110gr Pro Hunter by Sierra and the 120gr SST by Hornady have served me well on deer and hogs.

View Quote For whatever reason, the 110 PH has been surprisingly accurate in every 68 I've ever owned no matter the chamber specs, rifling or barrel length. It is indeed a great deer round and I used it exclusively for several years until going to the 95 TTSX. |

I had great accuracy with the Pro Hunters but bullet performance was hit or miss. One nice double lung pass through and two disintegrations at close range.
The 90 GDs messed up some hogs. I lent my 18" ARP with a Geisselle trigger a former Marine fresh back from an Afghan deployment right before he ETS'd. He whacked 4 hogs in 5 shots in less than 20 seconds with the 90 Gold Dots. Every one of them were DRT. |

Looks like a variety of bullets have done great. My son and I have had great luck the last 4 or 5 years with the 100 grain and 110 grain Nosler AccuBond.

I've killed countless deer in MO with gold dots and fusion 115's, and a couple muleys in CO and lopes an WY. Very happy

If you can find it: SSA Pro Hunter 110 grain. Nosler acquired SSA, don't believe they are offering it anymore. Another option would be 85 or 95 grain Barnes TSX.
In my opinion SSA had the best factory loads for the 6.8 until Nosler classically FUBAR'd what they bought. |
|
[#28]
Sellier & Bellot - 6.8 Remington PTS 110 gr. Accurate in my rifle and (relatively) cheap, so that's what I used this year. Deer did not cooperate during rifle season, so no field results to share.

Nosler produces good stuff, just did not like how the SSA acquisition impacted the 6.8 ammo options.
Probably worth a try to see how the ammo performs. |

All of the above!
The only hunting ammo I have used is 120 SST but I also shoot 90 GDHP, 110 Sierra and am about to load 130 grains up for my new ARP barrel. |

Unfortunately the semi auto proposal fell through in Pa. . no 6.8 this year.
|
|
[#36]
Can you remove the gas tube and install a gas block that can be completely closed or is the law written something like a gun can't be able to be converted to semi auto?
|

[#37]
I use 95 grain TTSX's in all my 6.8's. As I reload my go to round is 95 grain TTSX over 29.5 grains of LT-32 @2.275 O.A.L. Whitetail, antelope, and piggies have all been dropped pretty much where they were shot. Of course shot placement helps. Longest ranged shot was a whitetail doe at 305 yards.
As you are not reloading here is a suggestion: Wilson Ammo Here's an example of terminal performance. Unfortunately I have not recovered a TTSX as of yet; pass through on all. |

Please don't shoot 400 yard shots at deer w 6.8. I'd recommend keeping them under 300 w this caliber.

|
[#40]
I've been using 120 SST and 110 Fusion for the last three years. The 120 SST is by far the most accurate round I've found for my 6.8. That's my go to round for just about everything I hunt in Texas and Arkansas. I like the 110 Fusion for hogs in east Texas they just anchor them better than the SST round.

Took my first deer so far this season with a 90gr Gold Dot, neck shot right through the spine so the deer dropped instantly.

Took two more with 120gr SST this year: a buck at 200 yards and a doe at about 60. The round that hit the doe actually fragmented hard. MV on my loads is about 2650fps
