For those of you that deer hunt with your 300 blackout. What round have you used with success. Thanks

125's shot two to the head (lights out)
208 Amax suppressed Subs  hunting deer with subs not very good. Shot 3 last year, all three hit in the bread basket, zero expansion, deer ran over 50-100 yards.

2 with 300BLK last year:
Hornady 208 gr AMAX to the neck dropped him in his tracks, DRT, from about 40 yards. He was standing still. I won't use subs for deer again though. It was cool and all to drop him so quietly, but in hindsight, that round is too limiting for me. I got lucky.

Remington 120 gr OTFB, pass-through to the chest, from 40 yards or so. He was walking/trotting after some does with his head down. He ran 10 yards, stumbled back, and was dead right there. Didn't find the bullet but there appeared to be decent expansion.

For the longest time my dad hunted with a .222 and NEVER had to track a deer.

No worries with a .300blk.  All about bullet placement. Hunt with what YOU'RE comfortable and accurate with.

Shot this guy at around 50 yards . Double lunged him with Remington hog hammers -130 grain. He dropped about 20 yards away . My 300 blackouts (sbr & ruger American ranch ) are now my go to guns in the east tx timber where I rarely shoot over 100 yards .

Im using 125gr Nosler BT's that I reload.   3 for 3 so far.  Bullet works well and expands well at 300blk velocities.

Barnes 110 Tac-tx.  No DRT but I played it safe and shot right behind the shoulder instead of head/neck.  Ran/staggered, 30 yards before piling up.  Heart was half gone.

Have stocked up on 125 Nosler BTs as well, after many positive reviews.

Subs or supers? For subs there is G2, Lehigh, and a new round from Noveske.

I took two last year, one at 70yds and one at 85yds using 125gr Sierra SP pushed by H110 at about 2100FPS- One dropped where it stood and one jumped about 10ft and was out. This has officially become my new deer rifle. I have yet to try subs, I hope in the near future they will make some 220gr .30 projectiles that expand at subsonic velocities and remain affordable. Right now as far as I know in order to get a good subsonic round for hunting you have to buy factory ammo and they at $2+ per round.

This will by my son's (and maybe my daughter's) first year hunting. I'm sending them in with a CVA Hunter in 300BLK loaded with 110gr Barnes TAC-TX.
No first hand experience, but it seems like it should be more than capable at the ranges we will see deer (hilly eastern deciduous forest).

I've run a 16 and 8.5''
Factory barnes 110 work well.
Taken them from 25-150ish with those.
Trying the 120 this year.
Have worked up some nosler 125's with 5744 and those performed well too.

125gr Hornady SST's

Accurate, cheap, good expansion.  Good bullet out to 100.  maybe could stretch it to 150 at most.

110gr Barnes Black Tips have worked well for me.   Bout an 80 yard lung shot.

I know several Hog Guides that will not allow 300 Blackouts on their ranches anymore due to poor performances. one of the State Ag Inspectors also told me that their shooters are not using them either.

There is a big problem with the 300 blackout.  and its ammo related...

When you use a 243, 270, 308, 3006 , even the old and lowly 30-30 or anything else like these, you have a margin of error.  There is always some clown who shows up with completely inappropriate ammunition, usually out of ignorance.  In most cases however, there is still enough power that a .30-06 with a bad bullet will likely still take that deer.

The Blackout can take deer cleanly.  But the problem is there are a lot of totally inappropriate bullet and ammo choices available.  I am willing to bet that various game managers are banning the .300 AAC because of shitty performance because clowns are using the wrong damned bullet.  It may be "cool" to hunt with your subsonic suppressed 8" SBR, but those subsonic loads are almost always a REALLY bad choice for hunting big game.  While some people will take deer with a .45 ACP, few people will do so with old school 230 FMJ bullets.  When you load a 300 AAC with 220 or 240 grain subsonics (or worse yet, anything using a 150,180 or 208 subsonic), you are essentially trying to use a round roughly equal to 45 ACP hardball on deer..... at 100 and 150 yards.  Its stupid....

The Blackout can take can deer cleanly.  It REQUIRES the use of a supersonic bullet designed specifically to expand on game at AAC speeds.  Virtually all .308" diameter big game bullets are designed for impact speeds that the AAC simply cannot get to, even at powder burn distances.  However, there are a few bullets that will do okay in the AAC....  Barnes 'designed for the AAC" 110, Hornady 125 SST, and Noslers 125 Ballistic tip.  These bullets won't cut it in a 300 Win Mag  since they are FAR too fragile.  But they will open well, without over expanding, when launched from a 300 AAC at speeds of 2000-2100 fps.

The 7.62x39 soviet round is a decent enough deer killer.  its no moose rifle, but it will drop deer readily enough.  110 to 130 grain loads in the 300 AAC are roughly equal to the 7.62 commie round in terms or energy and performance.  whatever a ruger Mini 30 or a SKS will do with a Winchester or Federal 123 grain soft point, a .300 AAC will match when loaded with a similar, appropriate bullet.  There simply isn't a real margin of error of any real size when using the 300 AAC on deer.  Very very few people would use a 123 FMJ out of a 7.62x39 on deer, but these same people inset on trying to use a heavier, non expanding  bullet out of the blackout.  Its a bad idea.  Any bad rap the blackout is getting is due entirely, in my opinion, to stupid ammo choices.

I have used Barnes 110gr Black Tips thru an TC Encore with 16" barrel.  Buck at 33yds and doe at 80yds last year worked very good.  I was impressed!
Is it as good as a 50ML or 12GA slug?  Terminally = No.   But it is better for me in: consistent accuracy, easier cleaning, lower recoil and seems to work very well with Barnes bullet.

So with limited choices of legal calibers in IL, it is my Deer firearm go to for now.

I have used several types of supers over the years.

I have found several good super rounds that work well. I currently use Hornady 125 SST and they are the best round I've tried so far. Now saying that the Nosler 125 BT work almost the same but cost more. I've used Sierra 125 game kings they work OK and will kill deer but are not a consistent round. I've used Barnes black tips 110 and Barnes 130. Both performed about the same and deer ran a good bit till they died.  But had some accuracy issues with both rounds.

All of my shots are double lung and or heart. I don't aim for the head or neck.
