IMO... No. Not anywhere near enough science to say hog population increases deer declines. They do not compete all that much for the same resources except water and corn from your feeder. Acorns maybe but they are everywhere.. Could it happen. ? I would say yes, but the disparity in numbers of hogs to deer would have to be large. So wide that people would have major problems with the hogs and start eradicating them before any major decline in deer population. I would concede hogs could be a contributing factor with others though.
I have watched Hogs, Deer and Turkeys all at the feeder at the same time eating with little pushing and shoving. My guess is it is governed like most food related wildlife interactions...when every one has food there is little fighting. When it is scarse whom ever is biggest or gets there first wins. Certain times of year may also be a factor as to their interactions. Except at a feeder or other type Ag feeding station I rarely see Deer and Hogs feeding right next to each other. Same field but not all that close.
the new for us lease I have been hunting this year has boat loads of hogs and plenty of deer. If you have noticed a decline in deer I would look closer at Coyotes, Panthers, Bear and Bobcat increases on your lease. It starts with a noticeable d cline in bunny rabbits. Like the light went off and you just noticed you have not seen one in a month. You used to see 2-3 every day. Fewer coons and other small game, etc. you will also now remember you have seen more Coyotes and captured more Bears and Panthers on game cameras than you did previously. It starts slow and subtle. Almost unnoticed. By the time you put all the little tell tail signs together it is too late. Coyotes are a real problem in Florida now.
