Got this girl 15 minutes after hitting the woods yesterday morning. Her and another doe came down a slope into a ditch line. I was hoping to get both, but it took all of my 00 rounds to bring her down. After 3 shots at 20 yards, she never acted as though she was hit. I walked the area and never saw a single drop of blood. I walked the direction she was running and found her about 40 yards away. When I opened her up, it was jello that use to be her lungs. It's amazing what adrenaline does.

It's the only thing you can use in a lot of VA unless you're in a stand. Lots of guys run dogs in the flat parts.

I typically use slugs, or first round a slug and the rest as buck shot. I was hunting an area where there wasn't very much clearing and no real opportunity for a longer shot. The buckshot did the job. I still wish I had used a slug first shot though. It would've been more effective and I probably would've gotten both does. The other aspect I didn't like with the buckshot was the lack of a blood trail. Luckily she didn't go far. But I hate the idea of killing an animal I don't recover.

As stated further down though, a lot of hunt clubs that run dogs use buckshot. My guess is, that at longer distances, there's an increased chance of at least one pellet hitting as opposed to a flat out miss with a slug. Especially since most deer shot by hunt clubs with dogs are running when they're shot.

308 wrecked my small 10 pt. 178 yards. Last morning to hunt.

Someone posted on here that hunting bullets are used by Fudds to make up for their inability to accurately shoot. I used a 165gr Hot-Cor. No match hpbt. I think I hit where I was supposed to.

Distance was between 130-135 yards according to google maps :D
That one was a 125gr nosler ballistic tip over 18.9gr of h110.  Good shot on the vitals, it ran about 20yds to the treeline the dropped.

Took a neck shot on another Monday with a 220gr sierra subsonic load that dropped where it stood like an AT-AT on Hoth.

Got this guy with the smoke pole! I was out 15 days of firearm season here in Maine and only saw doe. My buddy talked me into buying my muzzle loader license and let me borrow one of his muzzle loaders. We went out the next day and after hiking around for a few hours I found 4 nice scrapes and a couple semi recent rubs. I came over this ridge and caught him chasing a doe about 50 yards out. Safety off, heart racing, I put the front bead on his shoulder and followed him through some trees and fired when I had a semi clear shot. 300 grain 50 cal knocked him over.

Got my first deer today. Season opener was Monday, saw some deer running but a nearby guy blasted at them. I skipped Tuesday, on Wednesday I saw one but couldn't get a shot, then spooked two walking out. Today started with snow on the ground, but I got this deer from about 15' away at sunset. 12 ga sabot slug to the chest.

I like that 125gr Nosler as well.  Your load is just a bit hotter than mine, but man that bullet performs very well with the 300BLK.

Got this 7 point at 45 yards. Saw him out at 350 and gave a grunt.  He came head down, and walked straight in through a tree line. I didn't know if he was going to stop or turn to let me put a shot on him.  Got a doe at 135 yards later in the weekend.

My brother got a dandy 9-point as well. Better picture somewhere else on my phone.

This has been the year of the 9 pointer for me. I took 2 decent ones with the slug gun in Illinois. Also connected on a doe with the wheel gun. I'm bucked tagged out, which is a good thing.
First buck grossed 139, shot was 75 yards in a cornfield, the second buck grossed 146-7/8, shot was 110 yards in the thick stuff. The doe was 65 yds.

just posted these in the .223 thread but what the hell.

I don't give two shits about antlers, so I'm not embarrassed by this little guy.

Popped out about 50 feet in front of me and stared at me. He was downwind but I doused myself in scentblock crap that morning so who knows, maybe that shit actually works. ( I chew Copenhagen in the deer stand and chain smoke on my way out so I know he should have smelled me)

His antlers will make a dandy coat rack.

Through all the vitals, two ribs, and out the other side. Detonated the heart.
