-5 for the Prius but +87 for driving around with a deer strapped to the roof of it. Troll level could have only been better if it had a NOBAMA sticker or Gadsden flag sticker! LOL! The struggle is real. |

Her and another doe came down a slope into a ditch line. I was hoping to get both, but it took all of my 00 rounds to bring her down. After 3 shots at 20 yards, she never acted as though she was hit. I walked the area and never saw a single drop of blood. I walked the direction she was running and found her about 40 yards away. When I opened her up, it was jello that use to be her lungs. It's amazing what adrenaline does. It's amazing what adrenaline does. I didnt know people actually used buckshot for deer if it was legal here would be handy to keep one in the chamber for all the coyotes I jump and the rest of the mag loaded with slugs I typically use slugs, or first round a slug and the rest as buck shot. I was hunting an area where there wasn't very much clearing and no real opportunity for a longer shot. The buckshot did the job. I still wish I had used a slug first shot though. It would've been more effective and I probably would've gotten both does. The other aspect I didn't like with the buckshot was the lack of a blood trail. Luckily she didn't go far. But I hate the idea of killing an animal I don't recover. As stated further down though, a lot of hunt clubs that run dogs use buckshot. My guess is, that at longer distances, there's an increased chance of at least one pellet hitting as opposed to a flat out miss with a slug. Especially since most deer shot by hunt clubs with dogs are running when they're shot. |

I did a double take on your location. Looks a little Muley-ish for antlers. Very unique.

What load? Range? Deer's reaction to the shot? I'm living vicariously here... Distance was between 130-135 yards according to google maps :D That one was a 125gr nosler ballistic tip over 18.9gr of h110. Good shot on the vitals, it ran about 20yds to the treeline the dropped. Took a neck shot on another Monday with a 220gr sierra subsonic load that dropped where it stood like an AT-AT on Hoth. |

Got this guy with the smoke pole! I was out 15 days of firearm season here in Maine and only saw doe. My buddy talked me into buying my muzzle loader license and let me borrow one of his muzzle loaders. We went out the next day and after hiking around for a few hours I found 4 nice scrapes and a couple semi recent rubs. I came over this ridge and caught him chasing a doe about 50 yards out. Safety off, heart racing, I put the front bead on his shoulder and followed him through some trees and fired when I had a semi clear shot. 300 grain 50 cal knocked him over. http://i66.tinypic.com/260gaid.jpg View Quote Nice Maine buck! Your load is just a bit hotter than mine, but man that bullet performs very well with the 300BLK. |

Got this 7 point at 45 yards. Saw him out at 350 and gave a grunt. He came head down, and walked straight in through a tree line. I didn't know if he was going to stop or turn to let me put a shot on him. Got a doe at 135 yards later in the weekend. http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j55/madcowracer/87d13245-afab-4af9-84c8-c693579db0c5_zpsl75xdblk.jpg My brother got a dandy 9-point as well.
