I want to see some deer taken with pistols! Revolver, auto, single shot, disn't matter. I want some motivation to get into this style of deer hunting.

30-06 - that was a fair amount of years ago now - I really need to spend more time with the handcanons deer hunting.

This thread rustles my jimmies. I traded my Mod.29 and full size 1911 a couple of years ago. I may eventually try with my M&P9 since I've killed a few hogs with it.

I may try with my Model 66 .357 this year depending on how bow season goes.

What kind of round are you using in that 45 colt?

Killed a doe Sunday with my 10mm. First non wounded deer I ever killed with a pistol.

Killed my first deer with a handgun last Saturday.

Shot a good size doe at 50 yards with my S&W 629-3 with a 4" barrel and open sights.  Load was a 240gr hornady xtp with a max charge of w296 in star line brass.

Nailed her right through the heart, bullet exited and she left a great blood trail straight to where she crashed about 30 yards away.

Handgun hunting is now the only type of hunting I want to do.  Not sure the difference, but it has added a whole new dimension of enjoyment.

Pics will be forthcoming.

I just bought a S&W 686 for myself this afternoon.  (Thank you, self!)

What .357 round would you guys recommend for deer?  I'm thinking I'll get some 158 gr variation for SD, so hoping it would probably work just fine if I wanted to take a deer with it.  I'm not "planning" to shoot one with my new gun, but if the opportunity presented itself to where my rifle wouldn't work, then I'd like to at least have a chance.

Last year, while laying prone overlooking a field, a buck walked almost right up on me.  No chance of swinging my rifle around, but I was able to unholster my 1911 and was ready.  He turned into the field and I took him with my .308 though.
