Is there any consensus as to what are the best broadheads for deer ?
The last time I archery hunted, mechanicals were illegal here. Now they are legal so I have no idea what to get. |

There will never be a consensus on that. Same as the ford/Chevy/Toyota/whatever.
Personally, I like slick tricks. |
|

Despite the price, try Rage. The two blade has devastated every deer I've shot.

Do you want a fixed blade, or mechanical? How much KE is your bow producing? If you're shooting a lighter bow, you may just want to go fixed.
Fixed blades: Slick Trick, Magnus, Exodus or Ramcat Mechanical: Grim Reaper, Swhacker or GraveDigger |

G5's are not legal in NY.
I run Spitfire Maxx mechanicals on my Mathews as they fly like field points. Could never get fixed blades to tune correctly, although I used to shoot Rocky Mtn. razors on my old Bear bow. |
|
[#9]
Ford vs. Chevy, everyone will have something they like.
I am a fan of Muzzy broadheads and have found their 4 blades work well out of my bow. |
|

All I have ever used are Spitfires. I use the Maxx version. Leaves a big ass hole.

NAP Killzones are fantastic from my experience.
Best part about them is no shock collars or O-rings and they do not open while walking through the woods...that was my biggest bitch about Rage...Until rage changes their design, I won't be shooting them anymore. Killzones put just as big of a hole in them, without the drawbacks of the Rage design. JMO, but there will never be a consensus on broad heads. They're all pretty good, they will all kill deer if you put them in the right spot(a field tip will kill deer if put in the right spot). They will all fail to kill deer if you put them in the wrong spot. |

Red feather phoenix--- but you better tune or slick trick, viper or razor trick,

I have taken many deer with spitfires, most have gone down within sight of me, until you put a spitfire through a deer standing in pure white snow you have no idea how much blood they will drain in so short of time, it is a sight to see, red everywhere from 0 to 50yds and its over.

same here; No consensus
2-blades or 2-blade w/ bleeder blade can be resharpened. |

And per nysdec illustrations, that little swoop on the backside is legal. |

The 'T3' and the 'Havoc' . ????? ETA : Grim Reapers for me. Dead in sight. |

Rage makes it look like a homicide.
My one gripe is all of these broadheads are pathetically expensive. |

Yeah, if you want to penetrate bone you want a heavy arrow and a good solid 2 blade broadhead. Dr. Ed Ashby did a great sets of tests with African game on the subject. If you are interested in such things google him - very interesting read. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

My hunting heads are Slick Tricks. I carry 2 Carbon Express F15 in my quiver in case I decide to shoot something other than a deer.

We use the Toxic broadheads, 100gr. and haven't lost a deer yet. So far in the past two years we have killed 6 deer and they have ran at most 150 yards, usually they pile up less than 50 yards from point of impact. I buy them off Amazon, 12 pack for less than you can buy 2 packs of 3 at Bass Pro. They do ship from China, not sure if they are knock offs or what, but they do kill deer and leave a great blood trail. My son just got a doe last weekend, hit the left front leg bone and blew right thru it, completely shattered the bone. She ran all of 25 yards and was down, the bolt was sticking out and the broadhead was jacked up bad but it was a clean kill. He was using a Barnett Quad 400 crossbow. We have had similar success using two Parker Thunderhawks and a Barnett Jackal.

Magnus Stinger- put my biggest buck down within 100 yards, solid bloodtrail, great pass-through performance. Send them back if they ever get dull and Magnus will resharpen them for you.

View Quote Magnus is a fantastic company. I use mechanicals for whitetail, but if I ever go after larger game, I will most likely shoot Magnus Stingers. I use their Bullhead for turkey. |

I'm down with the G5 Montecs (100 gr). I rigged my son up with these today. Thats what I use as well, the carbon steel versions. I also have some arrows set up with Rage broadheads but only as a back-up. |

Allen 125gr three blade fixed. $7.88 a 3 pack at walmart. My deer dropped within 70 yards yesterday.
