Whats a good 44 mag round for a revolver with a 7.5 inch barrel?  Per Iowa law it has to be an expanding type bullet.  Heavier the bullet the better? or light and fast?  I probably wouldn't take anything past 50 yards.

Hornday 240gr is what I use.

Or the 300gr.

If you really want to go "overboard" there are "exotics" like Underwood and Buffalo Bore.

^ That you don't want to shoot much of out of a S&W.  Some of that heavy stuff will break it.

Any full house loads from 200 to 300 grains. They all work well on deer.

A good bullet choice would be Hornady XTP or Sierra JHC.

If you don't reload and want to buy factory rounds... Hornady Custom, Black Hills, Winchester Platinum Tip, or Barnes VOR-TX (if you're into the all copper thing) are all good choices.

I use a 240gr JSP.

Winchester 250 gr. silvertips have worked very well for me on deer. Very accurate, complete penetration and considerable expansion (assumed by the damage).

I like the Remington 180gr JSP.  It has a flat point that I love, plus it seems to be hotter than other factory loads.

For deer hunting, just about any 44 Mag load will work. Unless you happen upon one of those monsters you have up there.

I will NOT use the Hornady 240 XTP again, not after my experience with it on a Texas game ranch cow elk.

Whatever you pick, make sure to shoot a couple before actually using them to hunt, probably didn't need to be said.

Interesting.  I had no idea that there were .44 fusions.

I've used Hornady's 240gr XTPs and Remington's 240gr JHPs and JSPs with good results.
