My 10 year old daughter dropped her first deer yesterday evening... She sure is proud of herself, but not as proud as me!

She shoots an 870 Express Compact Jr. and a rifled slug barrel with the scope that came with it (I don't know who makes the scope for Remington) shooting 20 ga Federal Vital Shock 275 gr sabots. She saved her Christmas money over a couple of years to buy it last spring (don't tell her but I put her money back in her savings account) and picked this one after looking at 4 or 5 different models. This was the first one she looked at, but wanted to look at others before she made up her mind.

Anyway, she first saw 6 to 8 does at about 200 yards in an adjoining field. I only counted 3 but she had a little better view than I did. She was patient and waited for them to come in. Only this one and another small doe walked in range, the rest remaining behind a tree line. At 25 yards she followed the front leg up to the chest and squeezed off one round on a perfect broadside, hitting both lungs and the heart.

Sorry.  I have to also point out how simple and on the money this description of where the bullet needs to go.

Thanks for posting !

Nice job Dad taking the time to show your daughter how to shoot and hunt.

Congrats to the young lady.

Do I detect a little blood smear on her cheeks?  Or just a blush?  Perhaps their is nothing and I am imagining things.

Awesome job. I also admire you putting the money she saved into her savings account and INVESTING your own money into a memory that will be with you forever. I can't wait to do this with my son.

It was a lesson for her, too. She didn't have enough cash to pay for the shotgun, so I "loaned" her the balance and made her pay me back "with interest" so she could see how financing works and how paying cash is a much better deal than financing. Of course, that all went into her savings account as well.

I'm guessing not many lessons in tracking a bloodtrail were needed after that shot.
