I'm new to Bowhunting this year and I'm wanting to get a hunting bag put together before the season starts. What are all the things everyone puts in their hunting bags?

Please help a newbie out and tell me what you have in your hunting bag every time you go out. If you could starting with the Essentials (scent spray, bino's, knives, etc...) then move onto things you have found that you just need to having on you over the years.

Can't wait to learn from all of your experiences

I am an amateur hunter/professional woods walker during hunting season. I love to go with my friends, sit in the stand for a couple hours, get bored, walk around, go back to my stand,  watch the woods and even watch the deer walk all around. I never shoot one, but I carry a rifle just incase I decide to or I get attacked by a bear.   I LOL because this place is 200 acres of posted land 2 miles from my house.

Anyway, I keep a backpack with me.  In my bag is:

Snacks, knife, rope, latex gloves, plastic bags, flashlight/headlamp, lunch, canteen, thermos, duct tape, extra gloves/hat, handwarmers, snacks, batteries for walkie talkie, walkie talkie, scent sprays, extra ammo, snacks, rocket stove, metal cup, hot chocolate mix, bottled water, and don't forget energy bars.

I usually Cary a trauma kit, and a small boo boo kit packed separately. Skinning knife, non latex gloves, wet wipes and hand sanitizer, hydration bladder and some bonkbreaker s, flashlight, headlamp and batteries. Section of rope to drag a deer with and a section to hoist the gun or bow into the stand and a vortex solo r/t monocular. Depending on the stand I'm going to and how long I'm going to stay out I might take a thermos with coffee and thermos soup container with some chicken soup. It's also nice to have a bag with a large enough volume to stuff an extra coat in in case you anticipate it getting colder or if you get hot tracking or dragging and need to shed a layer or two. This is my day hunting kit. If I'm going on a longer trip or to the mountains or backwoods I take my BOB in addition to what's above.

I recommend getting a pack that can carry a gun or bow. It's nice to be able to stow the weapons while you are dragging out the game. Take a look at eberlestocks hunting bags, they are my favorite but a pack with big water bottle pockets and compression straps on the side will work ok as well.

ETA : I hang a couple of the scent blocker wafers on my pack, they smell like dirt. I usually spray down with scent blocker before walking in but don't take any with me. I need to break down and get a range finder

Bow hunter here too. My walk is about 2 miles max from the truck. I have two hunts a field and a mountain side i frequent. A hunting bag assuming you mean back pack for my purposes is a hassle, waste of weight and energy. Pending time of the year I take a fannie pack in light weather. I can still carry a climbing stand if i want. If using a ladder stand doesn't take much room. In the winter I can typically pack my gear in my coat but some times take the fannie pack. I pack: water, drag rope, knives, head lamp, flash light (i always check batteries  so i don't have to pack extra), small bottle of cover sent, face mask, phone, pistol., hand warmers in the cold. I used to take a range finder but now that I know my standing I know the distances and what I know my range is. Binos for archery are a waste of weight unless you just like glassing deer far off. Just about forgot my comfort piece that I never leave is a self inflating seat made by grand trunk, worth its weight in gold, I can sit still longer if i have it with me, Grand trunk Thats about it. I keep a first aid bag and hand sanitizer in the truck. I don't know why people take latex gloves, never need them for field dressing. You may want to keep a trash bag to put guts in if you have to field dress and drag out a long way. I would advise to invest in a nice bow carrier. I made one of para cord and works ok but I need to invest in something better. Bow hunting is awesome, I don't even gun hunt anymore.

Hunting bags / backpacks for what.   I just stock my stand with everything I might need.   Food, water / drinks go in the 12 volt refrigerator, and everything else is stowed in an old cooler under the table.   Hell I just leave everything down in the stand.   The only thing I bring home are my guns.  My three wheeler and a two wheel cart is in a blind behind the stand in the woods.

That is some set up. You could stay in there all day and then some.

AS for as the land goes.   My Grandparent bought the first 42 acres in 1919 when they moved out of city of New Orleans.   My uncle bought 350 acres right next to it in the late 40’s    I have 8 ½ of the original 42.

I’ve always had some sort of stand, never one like this one though.   My last stand got took by hurricane Katrina in 05.   When I built this one, I built it to last.  I also built it large enough if I wanted to lay down and take a nap, I could.

Privet family land is nice.

If you need a hunting bag, you are pretty much doing it wrong. Everything you NEED can be stored in your pants and jacket pockets. If you are running out of room, you are taking too much shit!!!  Less gear=more deer
