Does anyone have a Summit Titan stand? I was thinking of ordering one but want to make sure I ask if anyone had one first. My buddy has a Summit Viper and he really likes it. I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with the Titan, I like the peice of mind of the 350lb weight limit as well as the added room. I'm 6'1 at 270lbs, I hit them gym and lift every day so the additional weight isn't a big deal.

Can anyone tell me if my choice is a good one?

Yep.

A great one.

Are you willing to look at a different option ?

Search for :  Guido's Web

If I did not have sooo many other climbing and fixed position stands, I would have already bought a Guido's Web.

I'm pretty set on the Titan but I'm willing to give it a look before I buy the Titan.

SHOOOOOO!

25lbs. on that Titan stand. My gosh!

ETA: The Viper only weighs 17lbs.. That's more like it. But If I were to spend that kind of money on a climber. It would be a Summit Specialist(14lbs.), or one of the X-Stand climbers(11/12lbs.).

Yeah light weight is nice but stands like the specialist and viper only has a 250lb limit.

I like my Summit Viper.

My suggestion is that you stop at the hardware store, and pick up traction tape.  Cut the tape to size, and stick it on the slats and the risers.

Summit is GTG. My Viper makes many trips to the woods every year.

I feel safer in my Summit Viper than I do in almost anything else. Many a time I've fallen fast asleep in my Summit only to wake up to deer nearby.

I hauled out my tree stand, cleaned it up, inspected it for wear/cracks and the like, and then I thought of this thread, so I took a picture.

All of the dark gray stripes is the tape that I added to it.  Nice and grippy on wet boots.

ETA:  I've had that tape on there for three years without any peeling issues.  Measure twice, cut once.  Wash the stand, dry it, wipe down the areas where you're going to apply the tape with some rubbing alcohol, let it dry then stick it on.

Glad this thread popped up again!

Reminded me of something I found on youtube last year.

I have done this while up about 20' in a tree.  Yes, there is a pucker factor the first time you do it waaaay up there, but if you practice a bunch at ground level all should be fine.
( I did it in my OpenShot which doesn't have a bar going around you or the extended bars shown in the second video... )

One thing these guys aren't doing, that I do, is to get a hold of two ropes before starting.  First, I grab the strap supplied with the stand that is used to hold the top and bottom together while walking.  I strap it to the very front of the platform and hold the tag end securely in my hand or teeth.  I also grab the line that is supplied with the stand to tether the top and bottom to each other so it doesn't fall if something goes wrong.  This way, if something goes wrong while performing the leveling technique shown in the videos below, I can recover the platform more easily with two ropes.  Both video's are informative and the technique saves a LOT of time and SWEATING by not needing to climb back down, make your adjustments, and climb back up.
