You have to feel for it, to die that way.

It looks freeze dried. Sad when one doesn't make it through the winter.

That's what it gets for not using a safety harness.

Snarf.  If only they had opposable thumbs... but then they could shoot back and really make hunting interesting! (yes, I am a hunter)

Wat?  Look at the face.  Short nose like that means it's a fawn/young-of-the-year.  Adult deer have much longer faces.

It looked to be a yearling doe like everywhere else our winter was brutal if its mom was gunned down it would have struggled.

That picture makes me sad.  Mother Nature can be a very cruel bitch.

Off topic - did the poster that had the spotted fawn hanging around ever say she made it through this freaking brutal winter?

Probably lost mom to a bullet and wasn't strong enough on its own. It is sad, but it won't stop me from taking a couple moms again next year.

Years ago there was a pic floating around email and such with a dead buck hanging on a tall iron fence with spears above the top rail.

Can you imagine it just hanging there til dead ?

I have seen pretty healthy ones here get pneumonia. They can get some of the same diseases as livestock. I'm leaning disease sense predation has not occurred.

What part of Iowa? We are in SE SD and Blue Tongue has wreaked havoc on our deer herds. They say the coyotes can smell it and won't touch em.

Very likely. Seems like the deaths slowed when we got some rain. From what I understand it is in stagnant pools of water. It's out west too. Pheasant numbers are waaay down due to a couple harsh wet nesting seasons.

Our deer seasons have been modified for the last two to try to save some breeding stock.

I waited a week and went back to check was almost nothing left. The coyotes cleaned it up pretty good.
