THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT
if you run a game feeder and use field corn, you should look at getting a season's worth now if you can

I have been reading about this for 2 weeks and I have seen the price start to creep up at our local feed store.

A 50# bag of corn is now $10.50

some stores like Academy, Tractor Supply and Lowes also have it but in 40# bags

I don't mind the smaller ones, they are easier to load into the top of the feeder anyway

those jerks that make Ethanol are the blame for it going up over the past years from $4 a bag to $8 and now the corn crop in the midwest utterly failed, like in Illinois so the price is headed up because of lower supply estimates

BTW, anything in the grocery store tied to corn will go up also

I've been using a new pellet from my feed store; mixed with corn in my pipe feeder. It runs $8.50/50 lbls and is sold as a hay replacement/suppliement for cattle. It has 12% protein so it should be more beneficial as well. I'm sorry, but the name of it escapes me right now. Of course, I'm sure the price of this will rise as well as almost all livestock feed is corn based.

do you think that this pellet you use will work with a traditional broadcast type game feeder?

I'd like to know that for sure. I would love to add some protein in with the corn if it wouldn't clog in the feeder

Pellets generally swell up when wet. Hogs won't care, but deer might.

so , it's probly better to just feed pellets separately through a gravity set up?

Last year it got to $15.00 or so a bag... it's still around $10 to $11 for a 50lb. bag now. Guess I need to go make a large purchase. I'm fortunate as I have a place to keep it as well.

Tractor supply is running about $1.25 a bag higher than this time last year, here in North Texas.

it depends on how your spinner plate is setup and the size of the hole feeding the spinner plate, most will work fine.

I recently filled mine with half corn and half protien. they were about the same in price for 50 pound bags. The difference is that the 50 pound bag of protien is typically larger than the 50 pounds of corn because of the volume to weight difference. just be sure to get something with the weatherguard or some type of water resistant part to it so it will last a little longer on the ground and not swell in the barrel if too humid.

CRAP! It's already hit! I didn't price corn at the feed store today, but saw that the "Commodity Feed" had jumped to $10/50lbs bag

Don't blame it on
those jerks that make Ethanol are the blame
. Blame it on the politicians you voted for that made the Federal Laws that require ethanol and on the weather.

Blame can probably be spread around a bit. I know a few corn farmers in my area that think the only problem with ethanol is that we aren't required by law to use more of it.

I blame it on the weather!

I see the use of corn in eathonal as a reason for farmers to make more corn. or new farmers to get into the buisness.
