The strawberry Kool-Aid is an interesting twist !!
I've been using equal parts Arm and Hammer Washing soda ( laundry section of the store ) and Rock Salt. Allong a known travel route, dig a shallow hole 2-5" deep put the ingredients in, mix around a bit, and cover with the dirt. I add a gallon or two of water immediately and that seems to release the scent better as well as allow it to absorb into the earth. It also helps, but isn't necessary, to dig the hole in a spot that stays moist longer than the surrounding area after a rain. Make sure you have a tree for a stand within easy bow shot. Be there opening day. ( ETA: Try to have a stand in a tree that is 90* from the trail. That way, you have a broadside shot no matter which direction the deer arive on the trail. I didn't pay attention to that detail a few years ago, and had to let a couple opportunities go. ) I prepare for an all day sit on opening day, but usually have deer there after the temps get going... around 10:30am -2 PM. |

Dunno.
I heard about if a few years ago. Harmless to the animals and if they don't need whatever nutients it provides, they don't hit on it. |

I use the washing soda, but not in equal parts. I usually put out 100 pounds of trace mineral stock salt, raked into the ground, then sprinkle a box of washing soda on top. We've had a lick of that going for 5 years now, here's an old pic of it, it's a good 8 foot across now and a foot deep.

I mix a bag of water softener salt from Tractor Supply ( 50lbs. I think ) and a box of Arm & Hammer washing soda ( same ingrediant as deer cocaine sold at 3 times the cost ! ) into a milk crate tied to a tree near a stand in a steep ravine. The area around the crate really seems to get chewed up . I spinkle strawberry jello mix ( generic kind ) over the mix , usually 2 packets. The crate keeps the mix from ending up at the bottom of the hill. At the end of August I will duct tape a couple peanut butter jars ( upside down with slit cut in twist off top ) to trees near My stand also to add to the mix. I also have a couple PVC corn feeders placed but stopped using them as the squirrels would empty them dry in no time, twisted little hoarders !!! I think this fall I am going to plant 2 or 3 dwarf apple trees along the trail to grow the gift that keeps on giving........WVleo
