THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT It will primarily be used for deer hunting, but also some black bear and hog. I'm thinking of a .308 or 30.06 bolt action. I want something relatively inexpensive, but something that will take some abuse and last a lifetime. I have a scope already. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you |

Lot of first time bolt gun buyers here recently. I'd go with a Savage with the Accutrigger.

Savage is my choice, it's what I own and accurate every time. Remington, Weatherby, Tikka, all depends on your budget. Lately it's hard to screw up a bolt action. Especially in 308 or 30-06 (my caliber of choice). |

Not much more to add in this thread... the Savage 110 or Remington 700 ADL in 30-06 will fit your stated needs. I'll offer up one more option.... the Marlin XL-7 in 30-06.

Howa, you won't regret it. Also I pack my T/C Encore a lot, but I kind of like a single shot.

06 gets my vote here. You are already talking about larger game (bear) so I wouldn't go smaller.
It can do everything a 308 can do, only faster and with more energy, which is the name of the game in hunting large animals. |

If you decide to go with .308 anyway (don't), at least be sure to get a 1:10 twist to be able to shoot the longer (heavier) bullets. |
