THE IMAGE ABOVE IS A PAID ADVERTISEMENT

I recently purchased a 6.8 upper from ARP.

It's a 16" 6.8x43 mid length 1/11.25 twist Melonite barreled upper.

What factory loaded ammo are you all using on deer?

I do not use factory ammo on deer, but I do use the 85gr TSX, the 110gr AccuBond, and the 110gr ProHunter bullets in my reloads.

SSA has factory ammo with all three.

If you don't need to use lead free,
SSA 110 ProHunter Tactical Load

If you need lead free,
SSA 95TTSX (first choice) or 85 TSX (second choice), both in Tactical Loading

I haven't loaded for hunting yet. But, I'll probably go with Nosler 110 Accubonds or Hornady 120 SSTs.
I like a little more momentum behind my bullets.
Pro Hunters are nice for the budget minded. But, are FB. Too bad Sierra hasn't made a 110 Gameking yet.

The Barnes TSX & TTSX are debateable. I've heard great reports & heard bad reports on them. The 95gr will expand down to 1600fps.

Factory ammo, Best are the SSA Tac Loads & Wilson Combat loads. But, a little pricy for shooting allot. Hornady 120gr SST factory loads go at a pretty good clip. BC .400.

FWIW, - WI has the Michigan Strain Whitetails (I didn't name it. :peace:). So, I'd go with the 110 or 120gr. for an extra UUMPH for those 300+ pounders (136kg)!

What are the advantages/disadvantages of using lead vs. a non-lead projectile?

Last season I used SSA 110 Prohunter. This coming season I started reloading with Hornady 120 SSTs. That should be more than enough for deer, and should be fine for elk with good shot placement.

Really, length & 'environmental' & price. The all copper will be longer, act similar to a Nosler Partition. 4 petal/polymer or HP up front provide hydro shock but the back & petals still remain (Well, the petals are supposed to.) for penetration. Also, lead-free environmentally friendly. But, the copper is lighter than lead. So, it needs to be longer to maintain weight. The Accubond is more of a hybrid. It has the hollow tip/polymer. But, has a lead core that is bonded to the jacket. So, it's more like a lead HP with a thick bonded bottom section.

Yep. Take the extra speed this lighter round makes, as well as the benefit of high retained weight for max penetration. If there is a Barnes TSX, or TTSX,in a similar weight, it would be a great choice, as well.

Oh, The Barnes 95TTSX, 110 Nosler Accubonds/ Sierra HPBT & Pro Hunters are popular.
To be more specific; I'd say the Wilson Combats or SSAs TAC loads factory loads. Then there is a Hornady 120gr SST are beginning to becoming popular too. The 110gr & 120 SSTs might be better for heavy WI Deer.

I've had success with the 85 grain TSX in the "commercial loading".

This season I'm going to re-zero for the 100 grain Accubond or 110 ProHunter.

Any of SSA's offerings will suit you well.

I use th SSA 110PH commercial loading. All have been bang flop, with one maybe going less than 15yds.
