I took this 3.5 year old 8-pointer this evening (October 2) at 6:49 PM. He weighed 180 pounds dressed on the processor's scales. Not my biggest rack or body by no means, but I couldn't help myself. We're only allowed one buck a year here in Indiana, and I can't believe I used my only buck tag on the second day of season.
It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

I would've tagged him! Only one buck in archery or in archery/gun seasons combined?

It used to be one buck with a bow and another with a gun. Sadly, it's just one buck per year with any legal weapon now.

That does suck!

In MO we can kill 1 buck in archery before gun season, another in gun and another in archery after gun season. We just have to follow the 4 pts on one side rule. But you can fill ALL the antlerless "doe" tags you want at $7 ea.!

Still a nice deer though! Good luck to you for the rest of the season!

Bill killed a whopper for sure! I suppose you guys noticed the striking similarities between his buck and your dad's buck from last year?

That just sucks. Are the bucks that thin or is it for more trophys for non residents ?

There are plenty of bucks here. The state just wants to increase the age class of bucks being killed, and the one-buck rule is their answer. Right or wrong, they figure that people will be selective if they can only kill one a year, and will hold out for a bigger-racked buck.

Kansas has been one buck per year for as long as I have been hunting. You get used to it. And I believe it does help the deer herd.

2008 BowTech 82nd Airborne. It's the best bow I've ever owned in 21 years of archery. It fits me like a glove, and the doe above is my 12th deer with it.

Only a couple hours into our youth season my buddies youngest son (11) shot his 11th and biggest deer yet! A huge 9 point that field dressed at 204 pounds.

Beautiful Buck. I'm heading up to Northern Wisconsin next weekend to check my trail cams and set up my 2 ground blinds. Hopefully there are some good bucks for me and my friends to take next month (Gun Deer Season). My buddy Roger took a spike a few weeks ago with his Matthews Bow (not sure of the model), so I'll have some deer for dinner on saturday.

Don't laugh at my over-sized dog - it's my first kill. First deer I've gotten a good look at in the field, too.

86lb doe, taken at about 100yds with a cheap Stevens .270.

wouldn't laugh even if you missed it. just remember, a bad day hunting is better than a good day at work.
