Got this little fella Tuesday.  He was standing in a creek, dropped him right where he stood with a Winchester 1300 12ga shooting Hornady SST slugs.

Not bad for my first buck.

Damn fine buck.  Not to mention as your first.  You'll hunt the rest of your life and probably never see another one like it.  Congrats!

Not my first deer, just my first buck. And you guys are right, I'll probably not be happy with less than 14 points now.

And as for what part of the state, Jefferson County, OH.

Got a six pointer first day of rifle season while out repairing a fence on the family farm.

Got two little does up on the side of a mountain. I'm glad that they were little. Having to drag both of them up the side of a steep ridge was not much fun.

Got a spike on Friday morning at 10:00am

Had a really good blood trail to follow:

Shot him with my AR15 with a 55gr Remington PSP from Wal-Mart at about 50 yards.

Bullet performance was VERY good.

Deer did run more than 100yards, but I still do not see how. The valley floor and the hillside he ran up looked like a slaughterhouse.

My son was the deer killer this season and bagged two bucks on tribal lands in SD.  The first was a young 4 point mule deer and the second was a 7 point whitetail.  Both clean kills through the kill zone.  I am good with it as he is old enough to practice what I have been teaching him all these years.

The rifle by the mule deer is my Ruger .308 but my son shoots a Savage .243.  This one was taken about 3 weeks ago.

This whitetail was taken a couple of weekends ago.

Had a great but long day yesterday; one of those days I'll remember every detail for the rest of my life.  My best friend (and hunting partner) and I both got 8 pts.  I heard him shoot and was busy texting him to find out which one of our bucks he got, then I heard mine working a scrape behind a bunch of brush (didn't hear him walk since I was in the pines) and fortunately he crossed a good shooting lane and got a clean one shot kill. We shot fifteen minutes apart and less than a 1/4 mile from each other.  Mine dressed out at 160 lbs which is heavy for around here, didn't weigh the other one.  His is likely a 3.5 year old (on the left in the first picture, the third picture, and closest to the wheeler in the 4th).  We aren't sure on the age of mine (on the right in the first picture, the second picture, and the one closest to the camera on the 4th), will find out from our taxidermist, but we think he may be quite old.

Shot mine with a Win M70 Classic in .308 using Hornady 150g SST Light Mags.  He shot his with Rem 700 Mtn Rifle in 7mm-08 using Winchester 140g BST.

An interesting note here in Alabama the deer population was nearly wiped out in the first half the last century, like much of the South.  The state repopulated with Virginia (which are basically like our native deer) and Michigan deer, his was Virginia/native(short body) and mine was Michigan (long body).  You can definitely see the difference in body types.

We have several more that may have bigger racks, so still have some hunting left even if it may only be photo hunts (no shooting unless it is a moose).

We had a rainy front move through overnight on Monday and it stuck around until about 1:30 on Tuesday, then it cleared completely out. Wind was crazy with gusts up to 45mph, but I decided to cut out of work a couple hours early and hit the woods. I saw the tiniest bit of movement about 40 yards out behind a bush, and saw literally just about 3" of tail sticking out from behind the bush, but the tail only seemed to be about a foot off the ground, so I wasn't sure if it was maybe a fox or something. I kept an eye on that spot, and she finally stepped out from behind the bush. Marlin 336 30-30, Federal Fusion. Look at the blood streak and you can see the entry wound just behind the shoulder. She didn't take another step - got the lungs for sure - lots of thick, bright red blood from the mouth.

I thought posting our success photos from 2011 would be a good way to introduce myself.   All of these deer were taken in 2011 during the archery, rifle, and muzzeloader seasons of 2011.  We fought a mild archery season and a rainy rifle season, but still had a great year.

I took this eight point on Nov. 5 during archery season.  I took my fiancee bow hunting and had set her up in a spot where I figured she would have a good chance and I setup 150 yards back down the trail we came in on.  Well she did see the buck, but he walked out of her range and came straight for me.
http://i.imgur.com/zzGoTl.jpg

My dad took this 11 point during archery season as well.   We had a few trail cam photos of him, and I had a couple close encounters but never got a shot.  He ended up taking it from a stand I had given up on.
http://i.imgur.com/iAzgAl.jpg

My fiancee's dad shot this whopper on the opening day of our rifle season.  It came out on the middle of their hayfield at 11:30am chasing a doe.  I gave it a rough gross score of 147, not too shabby for a wv buck and an especially good score for a main frame eight.
http://i.imgur.com/biP2bl.jpg

He then proceeded to take this buck Thanksgiving evening.  It's a main frame eight with three stickers coming off of it's brow tines.  I think it was around 19" inside the antlers.
http://i.imgur.com/4hk5ol.jpg

My dad took this buck the second day of our rifle season.  It followed a doe out into a field at the break of daylight.  This picture doesn't do the deer justice, it had a huge body was a very mature buck.
http://i.imgur.com/V3h1dl.jpg

I finally scored again during our muzzeloader season.  I saw this buck on opening day and had to let him walk due to him being right in line with some houses, but I got out earlier the next day and got a better angle.  He came out behind with a group of about 15 does,   and I got a shot at 125 yards.

Managed to get this little buck at 5:39pm this evening.. 2 minutes before the end of the season and having only gotten one other for the freezer this year I couldn't pass it up.
Used the 18inch AR in the pic with an XM223SP1 shot @ around 135-140 yards, liquefied both lungs and heart, broke two ribs on the far side but no exit, I didn't recover the bullet though, I can only assume that it got lost in the red goop.
