Our club was the recipient of a brand new D-STAR repeater system from the City of Pacific with our commitment to support their EOC in any emergency.  We also received a free 55' free standing Rohn tower.  Now, consider this, at age 63 I'm the youngster in the club.  Erections of any kind end in a doctor's visit.  We contacted the local electrical utility company and begged for help getting it up.  After the appropriate period of laughter, they agreed to help.

The top four sections plus antenna starts up:

Bolting them to the bottom three:

Attaching the LMR 600 and wireless internet CPE:

And . . . It's up.  90 minutes start to finish.

Yesterday evening I did an unscientific range test using my 5100 in the truck, and we cover about a 45 mile radius on the 2m side and 27 miles on 70cm.

Very nice.  Do you have good grounding with an inline coax lightning protector?

Yes, we do.  Ground strap around the base with four rods.  Lightning arrestor at the base of the tower.

I probably should have included some information about the system.  We have both 2m (C) and 70cm (B) modules available along with the gateway.

2m; 146.450 output; 147.450 input (yes, a 1 meg split)
70cm; 442,300 output; 447.300 input

Call sign: KD0ZEA

Right now we don't have any scheduled links, so if it's unlinked and you want to link either module somewhere, have at it.

I dunno if that'd do it... 342.5 is a loooooooong way, unless you can get some height, and by "some" I mean at least 50k feet without any kind of tropo edge or edge diffraction. lol.

Idk.
If I can get an opening pointing that way, it might be possible.
I've done coffeeville KS a couple times on 2 meters with a j pole and 50 watts.  Also I do have a arrow 2 meter beam ordered.  It would be fun if I could take the mobile out to one of the hills around here and work a bit of DX.

I have one on my house about 35ft off the ground. Mountains all around me. I am keying up repeaters 70 miles away on 50 watts - over the mountains.

I believe it.  I was getting into the repeater using my 5100A with a Diamond quad-band antenna designed fr the 8900R at 50 miles.  We have one club member that now lives 64 miles away from the tower who is putting up a 13-element Yagi for 2m.  It will be interesting to see (hear) how well it works.

Oh, would you like it?

I gotta ask, why do you want the IP?
