I figure we should start a "non-ham" radio thread... I've picked up a UHF Saber, VHF Astro Saber (plus all the programming crap) and I was able to get a couple M1225s and their programming crap as well.
I usually end up having a Moto XPR6550 from work on me as well. Pics after I go get dinner. |

I have one Motorola Astro Sabre on 2 meters.
I have three Motorola Spectras: one on two meters, one on UHF, and one on 900 mhz. I have an APX 6000 (with the yellow case) for work that I take home. With the Bluetooth mic. Oh, and also have a Moto mobile rig, I can't think of the model number right off hand but it is on an 800 mhz trunking system again, for work but I bought it myself and it is in my personal pickup. It has the mic with all the controls on it that replaces the face plate. Then I have a Collins R-390A, and a Collins R-388. They are really nice receivers but I basically stopped using them when SDR came along. |

The XTL line was very weird. You could use the W series (usually associated with the Astro Spectra), M series or O series heads on them. But you could only use the W series heads with the Astro Spectra and the A series heads with the Spectra/Systems 9000. |

But you could only use the W series heads with the Astro Spectra and the A series heads with the Spectra/Systems 9000. Yeah XTL 5000 seems to ring a bell. Right now it is useless to me for two reasons: the county 911 system just went to P25, so the radio needs re-programmed, and I am not driving my pickup much because it needs some repair and I am currently pouring all my money into home renovation. It runs, but has a problem. I sometimes respond from home when I am off-duty and bought the radio for that purpose, but I very seldom actually used it. I never actually transmitted on it. I used it mainly to see if anyone else was responding, or to get updates on locations and stuff like that. I could have done the same thing with a scanner, but..................I am a radio geek. Having the ability to transmit is nice, but I never used it for that. It's ironic that I am a ham yet, at work, I really don't pay much attention to the radios and use them as little as possible. I use my cell phone most of the time unless someone is calling me. |

I've got an HX-370S Marine/LMR with some 2m stuff programmed in.
I'm in the process of purchasing a couple of Icom F70Ts (non-P25 version). ...and that's it. I guess I don't have the BRD as bad some of you folks do haha |

Should I add that I purchased an Astro Spectra with W3 yesterday from a friend who just installed it in his 2014 Silverado and is now retiring it for a XTL5000?
I love the prices. Harris Unity XG-100P multiband (work radio) - I LOVE THIS RADIO. Run it in conventional VHF/UHF and P-25 700/800. And supposedly I'll be getting a APX-8000 multiband soon. |

Daggnabbit you guys are a bad influence. I have a couple of Moto jedi radios and I wanted to get an Astro Saber in VHF and or an Mototrbo but it had faded somewhat. Then I clicked this thread.
Dosent help that I picked up surplus and Panasonic CF-19 toughbook that has all the Moto software still on it. The radios disappear at the county auctions too fast though. |

Based on the seller's location and the channel names programmed into the radio, the last 5 I got were from Texas. Many of the channel names started with DFW and there was one labeled Tyler SO. The ebay seller I bought those from still is selling them in lots of five and not many are bidding on them as they are unknown condition with no batteries of charger. I snagged five radios for $62 and they all worked. For batteries, I bought some batteries that would not charge for $10 each and rebuilt them with new cells. Considering that these radios are P25 capable and front panel programmable, they are an awesome value at the price they are selling for. |
