i know this isnt ham related, but i figured someone could help me out here.

i have a police scanner but the antenna is pretty crappy with it, so im looking for a new one..the antenna would need to pick up 150-160Mhz and 450-470MHz, im unable to have a antenna outside as im renting, so i was thinking along the lines of picking up a mag mount antenna and sticking it on some type of ground plane inside to get better range.

ive been looking all over, but im unable to find any mag mount antennas that have that range.. can anyone help me out and link a website with a good one?

thanks!

You could just make one fairly easy for receive only.

A dual-band antenna (2M/70cm) covers 144/440, which is fine for what coverage you want.

Any of these with the correct mag mount base would work

I just bought a "Scantenna" from Amazon...it 'could' be used indoors, but it's kinda large.  Centerfire Antennas makes a nice multi-band discone I have in the attic.

ok, so this one would work for me? it says it Transmits 2 Meter Vhf & 70cm UHF (144-148Mhz & 430-450Mhz).  although i need 150-160 and 450-470?

I used one of these Radio Shack scanner antennas when I lived in an apartment several years ago. I put it on a cheap tripod in the living room. Sometimes I would move it out on the balcony (2nd story) but only when nobody was looking.
I have it up on top my 30ft mast right now serving ham radio duty.

good low cost antenna OP, plenty broad enough to RX your local stuff!  I bought one when Amazon had them for $16Prime.

you will prolly need an adapter to connect it to your scanner.  The first one linked will connect directly to your scanner, the other will act as a strain relief on the connection.

UHF to BNC Adapter

UHF to BNC Pigtail

good luck

That will work fine, as mentioned you'll need a UHF to BNC adapter.

For receive-only work, the slight mismatch in frequency ranges is a complete non-issue and nothing to be concerned with.

There are thousands and thousands of hams with dual-band mobiles that support out-of-band reception like your scanner, and
they're all using the exact same setup without any problems.
