Anyone got a recommendation? I'm looking for a great desk mic for my FT-450AT.

Microphone selection is highly subjective to operators voice. I've recently operated a FT450 with a stock microphone and was getting a lot of compliments on my audio quality. Of course running a kilowatt into stacked multi-element Yagi helped some too.
Heil makes great microphones.  I've been using a Heil HM12 with my Ft3000 with great success.

I can highly recommend the Heil microphones.  They make a noticeable difference in how you sound.

I was once asked, "What did you do?  Did you get an amp?" by a contact I had talked to a few nights before.

No, just added a Heil mic.

They definitely sound crisper then other studio mics because they are tuned for narrow HAM radio applications. They also isolate a lot of background noise. Its hard to do this with condencer type microphones.

You could do much more by tailoring the EQ to whatever mic you are using. I used a PR-781 and ProSet6 with my FT-450 and heard nothing but good comments.

Shure 450 Series II, I get unsolicited compliments all the time.  Mine's on an FT-950.

I bought a $10 mic, $30 mixer, and $10 boom.

I can tailor my audio up or down as I like, but I have it set where it works well now.
