I had a free table. $0
I had 5000' of 12gauge solid copper wire $0 (still have 3000' left) used radio $425 used tuner $75 coax $45 Power supply $75 Closeout 43' vertical antenna $75 Plus some misc. stuff I'm sure was around $100 like grounding straps and a coax bulkhead connector etc and online study guies for each test... So I guess $800 give or take. That's a HF station. UHF/VHF I assume is cheaper to get into with handhelds etc....I really don't know for sure. I spent more on gas going to take my 2 test for tech/general and then my extra than I paid for my antenna. Just off the top of my head I could have reduced my antenna cost to almost zero with what I already had on hand if I chose to do so so that's a reduction. Getting with a local club would probably be a good start, you never know what might get voluntered to help you out. If you have more questions, start a thread. Feel like I'm killing the QSL picture thread. I asked LOTS of questions when I started. LOTS. |

Everything just worked out. I had to check the call a couple of times to make sure I had it right. I thought I was working France at first. |

Holy cow Frostbite! You could get the WAJ award without even trying! Hell, you probably already have a few times.

Got a decent envelope from the bureau today with 15 cards in it. In case anyone hasn't figured out the curse of my DX yet, this should confirm it. All 15 cards are from Japan. I envy you East coast guys with so many little countries on the other side of your ocean! https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3946/15296801600_7690ef250d_z.jpg View Quote The grass is always greener, I suppose...the card below marks my second Japanese QSL card. Nice haul regardless of the curse. Also the Yuri Gagarin card...my first physical QSL from Kazakhstan. |

Man all those look nice y'all!
I have a few DX contacts that arrived. I will try to remember to snap a pic & post soon. |
|
Are cards normally sent point to point or through a service?
|
|
Both. If you don't mind waiting a while for overseas cards, you can save money by using the ARRL bureau service. If you send direct to their address, many ask you send a few dollars for postage.
In the US, you send direct. Some people ask for a SASE, others don't. |
|
Can you link me to arras service?
Btw that ten tec is very tempting |

Thanks, Derek. That's pretty much what I said when it happened too!

Today was bureau card day. I received 21 cards from Japan. No surprise there. But, I was excited to see three from Europe! Keep in mind that I am on the West Coast, so Europe is not quite as easy to get. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8675/16059984985_00e562cb8c_z.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8660/15872526058_49a9bc337d_z.jpg View Quote Good deal! Especially nice to see some European stations for you in there! I just received my first envelope ever from the Bureau yesterday. Will try to post pics soon, but it looks like the final haul was: Bulgaria X 2 Germany Barbados Sweden France A Japanese contest station And my first physical card from an SWL in the Netherlands for me working an Italian station |

Out of the blue, a bunch of cards show up that you weren't expecting. A physical SWL card is great! I have only received EQSL SWL's. |

View Quote Nice! I still have to get back to them to look into the "online" log. It says we didn't have a contact, but I'm sure we had a QSO so I'm hoping a letter got transposed or something. |
