Bu,ping .... Sorry, Bumping for tomorrows net. I need a drink.

Heavy weather in the area. Or looks to be on my doorstep about net time. I'm not sure if I'll be on time or doing the duck and cover.

Don't know if I'll find my way out of the VFW hall in time tonight. It's hot out and the beers here are cold.

Bumping for tonights net...
Tonight's Net Control is Mad Mike from Omaha. Check in, have fun. (Thanks Mike) |

Is there a way to listen in on this net through the Internet, without a license? I'm trying to get my Dad interested.

Tried connecting through my dumbphone but the connection only lasts several seconds. Every time I try it's a 50/50 chance. LOL.
There are several repeaters in the area that have Echolink connection but I don't feel comfortable occupying it for several hours. What do you guys use to access Echolink? So far I found that a PC or a smartphone to be very unreliable. On the other hand, my HF station always works. For some reason there is very little interest in a Voice SSB net here on Arfcom. |

I use IRLP. Actually that one of the main reasons I got a nano node. Its nice not having to ask of I can tie up a repeater for several hours. I do run an echolink client on my pc but its not as reliable as IRLP. View Quote I have a Kenwood TM-V71a that's being used very little. There was something in the manual about setting it up as an Echolink node. I think it requires a special cable. This may be worth pursuing. |
|
Ya. The nano pricing was tough, but I looked at it as about the same price of an Icom ID-5100. I use the nano much more than my 5100.
So, nano price about the same as a premium dual band radio. And IRLP is a poor mans HF. Only you dont have to worry about band conditions. Having owned a full size IRLP node and now a nano node, the nano wins hands down. Easy to run and use. Full size IRLP I was always fighting sound settings, connection settings, or doing server end maintenance on it. To add insult to injury, the node is ran all in linux. I suck at linux. When I'm on the road, or out and camping The nano goes along with a HT and my hot spot. Instant connectivity where ever I want it to go. I rigged up a power cable for the nano so I can run off battery, so it will go with me on field day. |

I spent the whole afternoon trying to make my Kenwood POS TM-V71a to work with Echolink through a set of optional cables from Kenwood ($5 for the cables and $52 for the Kenwood label. The manual is nearly worthless and the cables came with no instructions at all.
Have any of you tried connecting with a Kenwood radio? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. This is frustrating. This is why I hate using computers with ham radio. I just want to be able to connect to the Arfcom net and don;t give a shit about the rest of Echolink. It's not ham radio anyway. |
|
I checked in for the first time tonight. Looks like I got disconnected early. Maybe next week I'll have better luck. Nice talking to you all.
|
|
Can someone help me check my connection before the net? It was a pain but it should work now. To make the Kenwood radio work with Echolink, I had to download special software from Kenwood and change audio level on one of the pins in the back connector. The internet modem had to be replaced to fix the connectivity issue. It's been getting awfully slow lately but the new modem is lightning fast at almost 15 MBPS.

Have you tried the "Echo Test" conference? I'm at work but will be on the dcf-arc conference 30 before the net if you want to test your levels then. Scooter

I'm on DCF-ARC Echolink and 9257 IRLP if you want to try, Gyprat.
ETA: Sounds great, Gyprat! |

Sorry for missing the net. Had other plans involving some Rum Jumbie dockside in the Caribbean. Cheers.

I've got a work function to attend this evening. I'll try to get in before the end.

I'm having echolink problems. It says I'm connected to the server but I don't get any audio or callsigns/chatbox. Couldn't connect to the echolink test server either.

Worked the midnight-6AM shift at H2C (Hood-to-Coast) Race Control, covering a biz-band radio channel and the secondary amateur network.

Gal next to me (my boss, as it were) was covering the primary AR channel and talked/listened while I direct-dialed into to that area's 911 dispatch. Fwd'd the info to the local dispatcher to get the ambulance response ordered up. Most excitement I've seen at one of these H2Cs so far. Glad the gal run over seems to be not seriously injured. Everyone shaking their heads that the bad-guy seems to have been a race participant. 'QLP |

using my phone for echolink and it keeps disconnecting with a message that says
peer requested disconnect so can't do the net tonight |

Benton Broke the internet! ..... Just kidding. The Echolink and Irlp sever went down. Working on it now.

Tried to join on echolink, could not hear anything, discovered that I still had it set for bluetooth audio. My kids were being too noisy after that. Hope I can join in next time.
